MacDowell is an artist residency program located in a rural area of Peterborough, New Hampshire. A Fellowship consists of exclusive use of a studio, bedroom, and three prepared meals a day for up to eight weeks. Artists-in-residence need to be comfortable with a degree of solitude and disconnection from the outside world. Studios are comfortably furnished. There are no residency fees. Applications from artists representing the widest range of perspectives and demographics are encouraged.

The Opportunity
MacDowell, America’s first multidisciplinary artist residency program, seeks a part-time Administrative Coordinator (AC) based in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Since its founding in 1907, MacDowell has provided crucial time and space to more than 9,000 artists working across a variety of disciplines. MacDowell Fellowships have supported James Baldwin, Celine Song, Meredith Monk, Isabel Sandoval, Michael Chabon, Bebe Miller, Paula Vogel, Faith Ringgold, and many others in creating their enduring works of the imagination.
Reporting to the Resident Community Manager, the AC completes a small front office team whose primary responsibility is to welcome, orient, and assist resident artists and to model MacDowell’s culture of belonging. The AC also greets visitors, manages office equipment and supplies, and provides basic administrative support for residency operations and NH-based events and community engagement.
The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal communication skills, consistent attention to detail, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and comfort troubleshooting IT & AV issues. We are looking for a highly organized team player who combines a passion for the arts and a genuine respect for artists with a warm customer service orientation that centers an understanding of MacDowell’s diversity of artists, staff, and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Help orient arriving artists
- Route information, feedback, and requests from artists-in-residence to the appropriate department
- Assist with artist communications and reports
- Receive and respond to visitors, telephone calls, and email inquiries
- Manage office equipment and supplies
- In cooperation with the Database & Network Administrator, provide onsite IT support for NH staff
- Open and distribute mail for staff and artists; process donations and payments
- Support NH-based meetings, events and public programming
Qualifications & Skills:
- 1-2 years of experience in an office or non-profit setting
- Comfort and experience troubleshooting basic IT issues
- Experience with Microsoft 365 & Teams and Adobe Acrobat required
- Experience with Salesforce, Asana, Canva, or similar software preferred
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency with managing multiple streams of information

- Ability to graciously handle sensitive or confidential information
- Experience with accounting controls and public-facing events preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to regularly commute to Peterborough, NH
- Ability to regularly lift 10 lbs. and occasionally up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to sit or stand in front of a computer workstation for up to 24 hours/week
- Ability to communicate effectively with artists, staff, and other stakeholders by email, phone, virtually, and in person
- Valid driver’s license
- Some evening and weekend work may be required

Compensation
$22-26 per hour depending on experience; part-time (~24 hours a week), non-exempt; benefits include generous paid time off and employer contributions to 403(b)-retirement plan.
