RDW Glass Stained Glass Residency

Glasgow, United Kingdom

A Stained Glass Residency, taking place over 3 weeks in September 2026 (Monday 7th of September to Monday 28th of September). This unique opportunity, led by glass artists Keira McLean and Rich Welsh, invites artists of all backgrounds to explore stained glass as a storytelling medium. Located in the East End of Glasgow, the residency offers a nurturing environment in a working glass studio to develop your skills, collaborate with fellow artists and contribute to the city's storied tradition of glass craftsmanship.

The residency covers all aspects of a working studio from design, painting, leading and soldering, repair and restoration, copper foiling and creating a collaborative stained glass window. Our first week will be an intensive learning week of different techniques like repair and restoration, stained glass painting, etching, copperfoil, leadwork, glass fusing etc. Week 2 is more self directed where artists can focus on their particular field of interest and make a variety of things from leaded panels, to more sculptural pieces. Week 3, artists will make a collaborative panel on the social history of Glasgow, from designing the cartoon (stained glass drawing) to installation of the panel. We also plan to take the artists on visits, installs and on site repairs depending on what's happening in the studio at that time.

Our work is about unearthing the forgotten or neglected histories of everyday people whilst promoting and sharing knowledge of our endangered craft.
