The walls are still standing. The roofs are mostly gone. The forest is moving in.
O Castro Art Village is an abandoned rural settlement in the Ribeira Sacra, Galicia. Eight traditional stone houses in ruin, two hectares of forest, a landscape dense with memory and biological life. We are inviting one visual or mixed-media artist, with a particular interest in video or expanded image practices to spend 30 days here during October 2026 and develop a permanent installation integrated into the ruins or the landscape.
October in the Ribeira Sacra: the vines turn red across the terraced hillsides, the chestnuts fall, the light becomes horizontal by mid-afternoon. It is the season when growth and decay are equally present, and equally available as material. The work should be durably installed and designed to remain in place. We strongly encourage the use of reclaimed and native materials.
You will work in close dialogue with a sound artist and architect in residence, mentored by filmmaker Davoud Gerami, and live in a climate-controlled geodesic dome with a full bathroom surrounded by forest.
