Job Summary:
Pocosin Arts is seeking a creative, organized, and enthusiastic Programs Coordinator to oversee our Ceramics, Special Topics, and Outreach programs. The ideal candidate is a collaborative self-starter with a passion for the arts, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to fostering engaging educational experiences and community connections. This position plays a key role in supporting both the artistic and community engagement efforts of the organization by overseeing the daily operations of our ceramics studio, coordinating online clay and special topics programming, and developing meaningful educational experiences for diverse audiences.
The Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming studio environment while supporting artists, instructors, students, and visiting workshop participants. The Coordinator will develop and implement curriculum for community-based programming, including adult and youth classes, outreach initiatives, and special events that advance Pocosin Arts' mission of fostering creativity and access to the arts.
Additional responsibilities include coordinating classes, workshops, and public programs; managing studio inventory and supplies; assisting with equipment maintenance; and supporting the growth and delivery of online ceramic learning opportunities. The ideal candidate is passionate about ceramics, arts education, and community engagement, knowledgeable of special topics (including, but not limited to printmaking, textiles, papermaking, book arts, mixed media, etc.) and thrives in a collaborative, hands-on environment.
This position combines office, studio, and campus-based work. Duties require extended periods of sitting and computer use, as well as frequent movement throughout Pocosin Arts’ facilities and grounds. The Coordinator will work both indoors and outdoors and should be comfortable walking across uneven terrain, climbing stairs, accessing studios and maintenance areas, and occasionally lifting or moving materials, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 40–50 pounds.
This is an exempt, full-time, year-round, benefits-eligible position. Standard work hours are Tuesday-Saturday but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at Pocosin Arts in Columbia, North Carolina.
Key Responsibilities
Education Programming & Administration
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain a year-round schedule of community educational programming, including adult classes, youth programs, summer art camps, workshops, community events, and publish confirmed programs on the Pocosin Arts website.
- Recruit, recommend, and coordinate instructors for summer workshops, classes, and special programs.
- Supervise 1–2 Emerging Resident Artists (September-May) and the Summer Art Camp Instructor (June-July)
- Provide program support which includes overseeing program planning, scheduling, and materials procurement.
- Collaborate with resident artists and community partners to develop educational programming for high school students, seniors, and other audiences.
- Manage the delivery of five new online ceramics or special topic workshops per month, including instructor outreach, test-call coordination, workshop support, and administrative follow-up.
- Oversee design of promotional materials for local programs and events and their distribution throughout the community.
- Coordinate travel and transportation logistics for visiting summer on-campus workshop instructors.
- Maintain program records, track outcomes, and assist with grant reporting and other administrative requirements.
- Provide instructional support and serve as a substitute instructor for ceramics classes, youth programs, and high school courses when needed.
- Provide support for special initiatives and assume other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Studio Operations & Safety
- Oversee daily operations of the ceramics studio, including kiln firings, scheduling, equipment use, and material management.
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming studio environment; enforce studio safety policies and procedures.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Manage inventory and ordering of ceramic, youth education and community supplies and studio materials
Community Outreach & Partnerships
- Serve as the primary point of contact for community partnerships, including Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, Tyrrell County Public Library, and the Tyrrell County Senior Center.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local organizations, educators, artists, and community stakeholders.
- If needed, represent Pocosin Arts at community meetings, festivals, and planning events, including the Scuppernong River Festival and Rivertown Christmas.
- Support outreach initiatives that expand access to arts education and strengthen community engagement for programs such as Art on the Perquimans, Scuppernong River Festival, Artrageous, etc.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Ceramics, Arts Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience working in a ceramics studio, educational arts setting, or community arts organization.
- Demonstrated experience managing studio operations, educational programming, or community arts initiatives.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of ceramics studio safety practices, equipment, and materials.
- Experience teaching or facilitating learning experiences for diverse audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently in a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency with inventory management, basic equipment maintenance, and administrative tasks.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends in support of classes, workshops, and special events.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams.
- A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire and own/possess a personal vehicle.
- Is persistent and proactive, with the determination to do what it takes to secure commitments and achieve targets.
Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in WordPress website administration, content management, and updates.
- Experience with Bloomerang and/or other constituent relationship management (CRM)
- Experience working with CapCut or similar video editing software

Salary: Compensation discussions are part of the interviewing process. The starting salary range for this position is $40,000 - $45,000 annually and is negotiable within this range based on the skills and experience an applicant brings to the position.
