At White Buffalo Land Trust, the Artist-in-Residence program exists to deepen the cultural dimension of regenerative agriculture—inviting artists to engage directly with land as collaborator, teacher, and medium.
Through time spent at Jalama Canyon Ranch, artists explore the intersection of ecology, agriculture, and human expression—translating living systems into forms that expand awareness, connection, and care.
Jalama Canyon Ranch is a 1,000-acre living laboratory on California’s Central Coast, where regenerative practices shape the landscape.
Artists are invited to:
- Develop original, place-based work
- Observe and interpret ecological systems
- Engage with regenerative agricultural practices
- Collaborate with land stewards and community
Public Contribution Includes:
- One community-facing experience
- One educational or participatory offering
Support Includes:
- On-site accommodations
- Living, travel and materials stipend
- Access to diverse ecological environments
Eligible Disciplines:
We welcome artists across all mediums—illustration, painting, architecture, sculpture, fiber arts, ceramics, photography, music, dance, creative writing, poetry, and beyond

Decisions: Final decisions will be made by the end of September 2026, and all applicants will be notified at that time.
Residency Period: March – November 2027
Residency Length: Minimum of 6 weeks, with flexible options up to 3 months
Eligibility: This residency is currently open to artists who are residents of the United States.
Stipend amount will differ depending on length of residency. We provide:
- Weekly stipend for food and materials.
- Travel reimbursement.
