Elsewhere Studios sits in Paonia, Colorado — a town of 1,500 in the North Fork Valley, where the desert meets the mountains, surrounded by orchards, farms, and vineyards. It's a place that shows up for its artists: a town-wide Final Friday art walk, a community radio station that puts residents on air, a public library that lends original artwork.
Artists come for one to three months. Three to four residents live here at a time and become a household — private rooms, a shared kitchen and commons, and a 360 sq ft main studio with high ceilings, easels, a lofted library, slop sink, and screen printing equipment. Out back, a terraced garden with an irrigation ditch running through it.
Three living spaces: the Suite (top floor, its own studio and a private bath with clawfoot tub), the Loft (right off the commons and studio), and the Gingerbread House (a wood-stove cabin in the backyard). Ceramics access at Paonia Clayworks down the road — wheels, slab roller, and kilns including raku.
Open to visual artists, writers, composers, musicians, performers, scientists, activists, teachers, and students at any stage of career. Residents share their work through Final Friday open studios and a presentation in the main studio.
Sliding scale, $950–$1,600/month. Hosting one artist costs us roughly $2,500; grants, donors, and this community bridge the rest for everyone who comes. We are rebuilding our scholarship fund — if the fee is the only obstacle, apply anyway and tell
