Surel’s Place offers month-long residencies in our one-bedroom home with a spacious studio for artists aged 25 and older to focus on their work and their creative processes.

We are located in the heart of the Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create District, a vibrant blend of artist studios, single-family homes, new urban condos, wineries and breweries, creative businesses and riverside activity (including a surprising surfing community built around a wave and whitewater park). Though the home and immediate surroundings are quiet and peaceful, the residency is just a short walk along the river to Boise’s downtown core. 

The program is open to visual, literary, multimedia and performance artists of promise and renown: we have hosted painters, sculptors, writers, musicians, composers, filmmakers, choreographers, immersive VR artists and many others. What our artists have in common is a need for a quiet place to create.

Applicants can be at any point in their careers or creative journeys. We recognize the value of process and look to support artists who approach this time with purpose and intention.

We believe artists of all backgrounds and disciplines should be supported and amplified for the  the value they add to our individual and collective lives. We aim to give artists the time, shelter, and professional support their work deserves. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we can offer a stipend of $100 per week for living expenses. 

From February through November of each year, Stove Works’ Artist Residency invites eight artists to live/work for one to three months at a time. Our residency serves as a moment away from the rigamarole of life and an opportunity for artists (for you) to take advantage of the dedicated time, space, resources, and community we have to offer. 

Each resident will have a private studio/bedroom and bathroom; a shared kitchen, living space, and laundry; 24-hour access to facilities, which include a metal shop, woodshop, print shop, and common shop space. Five of our studios are designed to accommodate artists who require significant space in their practice. The remaining two accommodate non-object-based practices, i.e. writers, curators, and academics. 

Stove Works offers three core programs: Residency, Exhibitions, and Education. Stove Works seeks to use Art to encourage conversations, inspire reflection, and to provide opportunities to learn from the experiences of others.

All of our programs are designed with fluidity in mind, allowing us to not only guide but to respond. As winds shift and new challenges are introduced into our lives, we maintain programmatic flexibility that allows us to adapt to and embrace those shifts. Our goal is to cultivate a climate and culture in Chattanooga that stimulates curiosity amongst its communities, enthusiasm for exchange, and openness to new ideas and contrasting perspectives. 

South Porch Artists Residency is a retreat space for working artists, scholars and clergy to pursue creative projects. Located on an historic property in downtown Summerville, SC, South Porch immerses residents in the evocative setting of a small Southern town, just half an hour from downtown Charleston. Up to six residents at a time are offered comfortable lodgings and studio work space, either in our 1835 Main House or contemporary Cottage Studio.    We believe that artists, writers, scholars and clergy – while often undervalued – provide essential services to our community, and to each of us as human beings. They uncover the universe, reveal our common humanity, expose injustice, point to reconciliation, and nurture our hearts, minds and spirits. Our mission is to support the essential work of these makers and thinkers by offering them dedicated space, time and community, and to enrich the people of the Lowcountry and our residents through personal and cultural exchange. At South Porch we are guided by the values of inclusion, community, caring and creativity. 

   Artists and thinkers, ages 21+, ranging from emerging to established and working in variety of genres are welcome to apply. 

Marble House Project is a multi-disciplinary artist residency program that fosters collaboration & the exchange of ideas by providing an environment for artists across disciplines to live and work side by side. Each session hosts eight artists and is carefully curated to bring together a group of creative workers across various disciplines, who might collaborate and learn from one another. Applications . include but is not limited to visual arts, writing, choreography, music composition and performance. There are six sessions that last for three weeks. The AIR season runs from late February through mid November. Artists are selected based on the quality and commitment to their work and their project description. It is important to note that each session is specifically curated in order to maximize the art residency experience for each individual artist. All residents live together in the historic, eight-bedroom Manley-Lefevre house, which is organized around a responsibilities-sharing system, highlighting sustainability and fostering community. We provide fresh ingredients and all residents will be asked to cook dinner (in a pair) three to four times over the course of their residency. Although not required, our hope is that you will spend some time in the garden alongside your studio practice. At the end of each session, artists are invited to present their work at ART SEED. This takes the form of talks, performances and open studios.

Ragdale is one of the largest interdisciplinary artists’ communities in the country, located 30 miles north of Chicago and accessible locally by Metra train and internationally by O’Hare airport.

Ragdale residents represent a cross-section of ages, cultures, experiences, and mediums, making for a diverse and vibrant community. Specialized and accessible live/work spaces include writing, dance, music, visual art, and interdisciplinary art studios. Each year Ragdale awards up to 150 residencies and 12 fellowships. 

Each session, 11-16 artists-in-residence enjoy 18 days of uninterrupted time for work, a supportive environment, dynamic artist exchanges, 50 acres of idyllic prairie, close proximity to Lake Michigan, and chef-prepared communal dinner each evening.

The Santa Fe Art Institute Thematic Residency Program supports dynamic creative practices that engage complex social issues, inspire individual transformation, and inform collective action. SFAI welcomes local, national, and international applicants of all backgrounds.

From the start, SFAI’s programming was developed and informed by artists, who worked to bring awareness to the shifting relationship between art and society, and to redefine and disrupt the traditional gatekeeping roles of art institutions, including outdated labels such as “master” artist.

While our programming, language, and focus has naturally shifted over the years, our mission has remained the same: to foster and explore the interconnections of contemporary art and society, to enliven public discourse on art, and to support and nurture artists at all phases of their careers.

Applications are accepted once a year for our annual theme, which includes our Family Residency Month in July.

Our residencies are free-of-charge, apart from an application fee (which is currently being reconsidered for 2024) and a refundable $150 security deposit.

Starting in 2023, SFAI will be offering $500 stipends to up to 28 regional BIPOC artists and creative practitioners who are awarded a residency. SFAI does not offer any other stipend or financial aid, nor does it act as a fiscal sponsor to residents. We suggest incoming residents apply for grants or crowdfunding to support their financial needs. Open call: Jan - April.

Crosstown Arts, situated in Memphis, TN, welcomes both visiting and local artists and curators to its multidisciplinary artist residency program, spanning various creative disciplines including visual arts, music, film, and literature. Set in an urban environment with shared spaces, the residency program promotes connection and socialization among residents and encourages engagement with the broader community.

Residencies afford artists 24/7 access to private studio spaces, along with complimentary use of shared art workspaces and music production suites. For live/work residencies, private living quarters are provided, complete with kitchen, laundry, and communal living areas.

Residents gain access to Crosstown Arts’ on-site Shared Art workspace, equipped with a range of analog and digital fabrication tools and production resources.

All residencies are granted without charge, though artists are responsible for their own studio materials, travel expenses to and from Memphis. 2025 residencies sessions will run in Spring (three months), Summer (two months), and Fall (three months).

Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the start of their residency, and there are no specific project requirements, fostering an environment conducive to experimentation and artistic exploration. *Crosstown Arts Residency is not considering applications from alumni for the 2025 application. 

In 2012 the Sam & Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts opened its doors to a one-of a-kind artist residency for artists working in paint. In the beautiful rolling hills of central New York and just several hundred yards from the Golden Artist Colors manufacturing facility, a 19th century barn has been transformed into a 21st century artist residency, with large studio spaces and private residency apartments. Artists-in-residence will participate in a completely unique opportunity to explore the widest, most innovative range of materials and technology available today for professional artists working with paint.

With a greater array of materials available to artists than ever before, this is an exciting time in art history. The Golden Foundation Residency Program is specifically designed to assist the professional artist in discovering and exploring the many materials and technologies available today. Through the Golden Foundation, residents will have the unparalleled opportunity to work with dozens of unique materials and technologies.

Our residencies are based on the exploration of innovative uses in waterborne materials and oil paint technology. Residents will discover materials that will challenge the way they think about paint. They will be introduced to materials that will open up new methods and new channels for expression and the creative process.

The Golden Foundation will be offering 6 Residency sessions, each session lasting 4 weeks with up to 3 artists.
