BOOM Concepts is a creative hub dedicated to the advancement of Black, Brown, Queer and Femme artists. BOOM Concepts is located in Pittsburgh and since 2014 has curated 50 exhibitions on-site, paid out over $100k in artists fees and produced 200+ events across the country. BOOM Concepts serves as a space for field building, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and storytelling. In its 8th soon to be 9th year, BOOM Concepts continues to work with creatives to find innovative strategies around entrepreneurship and artistic practice. In 2021, BOOM Concepts was selected to represent Pittsburgh for the Google Arts & Culture platform and was identified as an American Cultural Treasure through The Heinz Endowments and The Ford Foundation.

The BOOM Universe Residency at Alloy Studios is an in-house program that hosts multiple visiting artists quarterly. BOOM Concepts supports visiting artists in a multitude of ways including housing (the space includes full kitchen, bathroom, studio/practice area, and an area for rest), creative practice support, an opportunity to participate in BOOM programming, connecting visitors with Pittsburgh’s art ecosystem, along with allowing for space for rest from their busy careers. BOOM’s main support is focused on the advancement of Black, brown, femme and queer artists, and creative entrepreneurs understanding the need for such experiences that are vital to ones career growth.

The Environmental Artist-in-Residence Program at Wildacres Retreat welcomes artists, scientists and other professionals engaging with ambitious ideas and who are activity-focused on current global environmental issues. Candidates will be chosen for their intellectual and creative rigor as well as activism in their creative practice, with a deep emphasis on our climate crisis and its many permutations for society moving forward.

The intent of the Wildacres EAIR program is to support professional individuals and their creative practices from several disciplines, including all areas of art, social practice, writing, research, environmental restoration, natural science and other environmental and creative disciplines.

Qualified applicants will include artists and scientists who focus on climate change, global warming, the extinction crisis, habitat loss, soil degradation, as well as remedies and human adaptations to these and other pressing climate crisis issues. We are interested in artists who understand the cycles of the natural elements they are investigating and how the dynamics of our warming planet play a role in those cycles. For instance, in the local Blue Ridge Mountains the demise of Hemlock forests through infestation by an introduced insect has unbalanced essential elements of local watersheds.

The Art Colony provides artists with self-guided work space in professional studios set on Minnesota’s North Shore. An environment of creative freedom supports the process and development of new works, allowing for a combination of aesthetic inquiry, creative risk-taking, experimentation, and artistic development. There are no outcome requirements.

Vermont Studio Center (VSC) was founded by artists in 1984. We welcome writers and artists for residencies in Johnson, Vermont, and host online programs and events. Our mission is to provide studio residencies in an inclusive, international community, honoring creative work as the communication of spirit through form. Our buildings, many of them historic Vermont landmarks, overlook the Gihon River in the northern Green Mountains.

For over three decades, our residency program has offered residents and the general public an opportunity to engage with global creative communities.

Surel’s Place offers month-long residencies in our one-bedroom home with a spacious studio for artists aged 25 and older to focus on their work and their creative processes.

We are located in the heart of the Surel Mitchell Live-Work-Create District, a vibrant blend of artist studios, single-family homes, new urban condos, wineries and breweries, creative businesses and riverside activity (including a surprising surfing community built around a wave and whitewater park). Though the home and immediate surroundings are quiet and peaceful, the residency is just a short walk along the river to Boise’s downtown core. 

The program is open to visual, literary, multimedia and performance artists of promise and renown: we have hosted painters, sculptors, writers, musicians, composers, filmmakers, choreographers, immersive VR artists and many others. What our artists have in common is a need for a quiet place to create.

Applicants can be at any point in their careers or creative journeys. We recognize the value of process and look to support artists who approach this time with purpose and intention.

We believe artists of all backgrounds and disciplines should be supported and amplified for the  the value they add to our individual and collective lives. We aim to give artists the time, shelter, and professional support their work deserves. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we can offer a stipend of $100 per week for living expenses. 

From February through November of each year, Stove Works’ Artist Residency invites eight artists to live/work for one to three months at a time. Our residency serves as a moment away from the rigamarole of life and an opportunity for artists (for you) to take advantage of the dedicated time, space, resources, and community we have to offer. 

Each resident will have a private studio/bedroom and bathroom; a shared kitchen, living space, and laundry; 24-hour access to facilities, which include a metal shop, woodshop, print shop, and common shop space. Five of our studios are designed to accommodate artists who require significant space in their practice. The remaining two accommodate non-object-based practices, i.e. writers, curators, and academics. 

Stove Works offers three core programs: Residency, Exhibitions, and Education. Stove Works seeks to use Art to encourage conversations, inspire reflection, and to provide opportunities to learn from the experiences of others.

All of our programs are designed with fluidity in mind, allowing us to not only guide but to respond. As winds shift and new challenges are introduced into our lives, we maintain programmatic flexibility that allows us to adapt to and embrace those shifts. Our goal is to cultivate a climate and culture in Chattanooga that stimulates curiosity amongst its communities, enthusiasm for exchange, and openness to new ideas and contrasting perspectives. 

South Porch Artists Residency is a retreat space for working artists, scholars and clergy to pursue creative projects. Located on an historic property in downtown Summerville, SC, South Porch immerses residents in the evocative setting of a small Southern town, just half an hour from downtown Charleston. Up to six residents at a time are offered comfortable lodgings and studio work space, either in our 1835 Main House or contemporary Cottage Studio.
