Pine Meadow Ranch was acquired by The Roundhouse Foundation in 2017. Prior to this acquisition, this 260-acre ranch was ranched, farmed and cared for by aviatrix and rodeo stalwart Dorro Sokol, .Many of the buildings at PMR were built in the 1930s. Today, PMR continues to operate as a working ranch and is expanding arts, agricultural and ecological projects using the assets of the property. Pine Meadow Ranch Center for the Arts & Agriculture (PMRCAA), a program of The Roundhouse Foundation, is a 260-acre working ranch serving as a learning lab for conservation, regenerative agricultural practices and creatively supporting economic development in a rural community. The Ranch also hosts a seasonal artist in residence program. The vision of the PMRCCA is to improve the well-being of people and place through the arts, stewardship, and sustainable agriculture, with the goal of preserving the land, views, and other assets of the historic ranch for years to come.
Position Overview
The PMRCAA Arts Program Manager manages all the arts related programs currently including a selection-committee reviewed residency program, annual lecture series, and multi-event workshop series in Sisters, Oregon. The thematic alignment and culmination of all the arts programming at PMRCAA helps to elevate the importance of creativity as communities throughout the world confront complex challenges. This project focuses on not only creative place-making; but also highlighting creative place-keeping to support those who have lived in this region since time immemorial.
The Arts Program Manager will work closely with the Founder of the organization and report to the Director of Foundation Operations. This position is responsible for overall program development and staff supervision to maintain current programs. They are also charged with the opportunity to deepen connections between both the agricultural and grant programs of the Foundation to demonstrate multiple layers of this cohesive program. The Arts Program Manager will facilitate internal team meetings and development as well as work with regional partners to understand trends in the arts and cultural environments and help to translate those trends to local audiences.
The Arts Program Manager will lead and facilitate the Selection Committee process for the residency program at PMRCAA. In addition, they will ensure all PMRCAA arts programming, including but not limited to residencies, workshops, lectures, communications, and an annual project are well thought out, implemented, and executed to the highest quality. They will work alongside Foundation staff and trustees to build a cohesive and trusting team; report regularly to senior staff and leadership about programs and plans; they will be forward thinking to ensure timelines and budgets are met and managed.
The position is based in Sisters, Oregon; remote work is not available.
Essential Functions
- Oversee all arts programming at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture.
- Serve as team lead for Arts Program. Supervise Residency Coordinator and support the supervision of other arts team staff members (and interns as available) to ensure artist studios are prepared and meet standards; maintain an annual studio purchase plan for additional equipment. When the Residency Coordinator is not available act as staff contact and as liaison for artist’s needs.
- Develop an annual plan for the Arts Program at PMRCAA, while thinking strategically for 24-36 months in the future. Work closely with other staff to ensure the plan is well thought out, designed, and executed within budget and timelines; including developing, implementing and executing workshops and annual lecture series to support Residency programming and engage community members. Work closely with supporting staff as necessary.
- Develop annual themes for residency program; work within theme to develop additional programming including workshops, lectures and other events.
- Work closely with other teams at Roundhouse Foundation including agriculture and grants to ensure a cohesive program that is thoughtful and well-curated.
- Support and attend events including, Open Studios, Curated Dinners, Workshops and Lectures on site during the residency season.
- Work closely with communications staff and consultants to ensure advertising, marketing, social media and other related information is accurate, timely and distributed.
- Lead and facilitate Residency Selection Committee process. Have a clear understanding of the application process and online portal. Facilitate interviews with candidates and final schedule development for cohorts, alongside the Residency Coordinator. Meet with Residency Selection Committee members and recommend other members regularly.
- Develop and execute an annual project. In addition, work to ensure an annual record of participating artists/residents is kept and shared. This could include coordinating an annual showcase of residents’ work alongside the Residency Coordinator. Supervise the development of the bi-annual anthology.
- Serve as the PMRCAA representative with other Residency groups across the region. Ensure memberships in local guilds and art associations are current; and PMRCAA has attendance at meetings as frequently as allowed. Share information as necessary with staff and trustees.
- Direct program alumni relations.
- Develop, prepare, and manage the annual budget for the Arts Program; work closely with the Foundation Leadership to monitor the budget throughout the year.
- Work with Director of Foundation Operations and coordinate and make available an annual program plan and schedule.
- Develop a deep understanding of the Sisters and central Oregon art scene to help connect visiting artists with local craftsman.
- Oversee and have a deep understanding of the historic significance of the property; a passion for understanding how a sense of place can develop over time and can impact the figure of a community.
- Work closely with other PMRCAA staff and consultants to ensure a thoughtful marketing, communications, and outreach plan (including advertising, marketing, social media and other sources) regarding the artist residency program and all additional arts programming is well executed and equitable.
- Identify opportunities for historic preservation and collaboration with organizations and Tribal leadership to honor the story of place.
- Occasional other duties on behalf of PMR and The Roundhouse Foundation as assigned.
Minimum qualifications
A successful candidate will demonstrate a minimum of 4-7 years’ experience in each of the functional areas listed below. Additionally, they will embody the following personality traits and personal profile:
- Minimum A.A. or 4-7 years’ experience working with arts or cultural organizations and/or residency programs.
- Experience working with founders and developing a young program within a growing organization.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills; with a high level of personal ethics, cooperative attitude and ability to provide excellent customer service with a strong desire to support the mission of Roundhouse Foundation, and a commitment to rural and Indigenous communities throughout Oregon.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail,
a creative problem solver and innovative thinker with the ability to face shifting priorities and conditions with grace and skill. - A self-starter who is proactive and able to manage and balance their time between multiple projects and deadlines with strong project management skills and the ability to manage complex projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth.
- Ability to write well, and translate complex information into concise, descriptive and comprehensible documents.
- Exceptional organization skills and accurate attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize work effectively and manage multiple, time-sensitive demands.
- High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, Google Suite and data analysis.

Desired qualifications
- Relationships with communities and/or non-profits in rural Oregon.
- Understanding of Indigenous cultures and Inter-Tribal relationships across the Pacific Northwest
- Lived rural experience.
- Overseeing projects of historic preservation, conservation, and/or arts development.
- Multi-lingual: Spanish is preferred.
Compensation
This is a full-time, exempt, employee position. Position compensation is $70,000-$105,000/annually. Roundhouse Foundation provides group health insurance coverage (medical, dental, vision) including medical transport insurance for eligible employees working an average of at least 30 hours per week, subject to the terms of the health insurance plan and a 401K for eligible employees. This position does not allow for remote work.
