6okken is an artist-run residency in Oishi, a small village on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi at the foot of Mt. Fuji, about two hours from Tokyo by bus. Each resident or group has a whole house with its own kitchen and bathroom, plus a shared studio, in a cluster of six houses where our members also live and work.
Terms are 26 nights, eleven times a year. The 2027 terms start on Jan 22, Feb 19, Mar 19, Apr 16, May 14, Jun 25, Jul 23, Aug 20, Oct 1, Oct 29 and Nov 26. Applications are open year-round and should reach us at least 60 days before the start date. We meet each resident online before they arrive, pick them up at Kawaguchiko Station with a welcome lunch, and drive them for research and shopping up to twice a week. There is no required final presentation.
