We-Che Art Residency is an artist run project, founded by the artistic duo Raom&Loba. In line with our own vision and experience, we humbly wish to offer others what we have received from our peers at different points in our artistic careers: an inspiring place, a warm and quiet workspace, conducive to constructive exchanges with artists from every parts of the world… as a small, human-scale adventure.
We-Che is located on 2ha slice of landscape, crossed by a river, planted of pine and native trees on the 259 Road. close to the historic village of Trevelin founded by Welsh immigrants and 15km from Futaleufú and the Chilean border. A natural nest, backing onto a protected natural area of over 40 ha the Nant y Fall river and its waterfalls. In the heart of the 16th of October Valley, its vineyards, its famous and vast 5million tulip field, facing the majestic pre-Andean mountains in the background at just a few kilometers from the southern entrance of Los Alerces National Park.
We-Che, means Young in mapuche, and we encourage artists to connect to Patagonia as a natural historical and cultural environnement. Our proposal is to spend time and space away to retreat, create and rejuvenate, gathering new inspiration, and also participate to a more respectful relationship between Art and Nature.
We welcome all creators and writers if their project fits to We-Che, evaluating if our structure can give all the necessary space and is able to promote the better experience for each one.

Application Information
Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Any book related discipline are welcome, amongst them writers and poets, story-tellers, photographers, paper-artists and small format 2D practices
(illustration, botanical drawings, natural eco prints, collage & die-cut, watercolor, sketching), graphic-novelists, travel writers, … willing to achieve a book project.
We have a special love for books, and a long experience as graphic designers, artists and author, in editing and making books of any kind, at any difusion scale.
For the April session, we will specially configurate the shared work space for it, with a special focus on hand crafting autonomous possibilities
(manual tools for special folding, paper and cardboard cutting tools, sewing machine, book-binding press…) and paper art and drawing facilities.
Studio / Workspace
The Galpon, "Casa de los artistas", is also the comunal space for conviviality. A shared bathroom/laundry with shower, sink and washing machine, a kitchen, a shared working/living space with a high working/dinning table, the Evolutiv Eclectic Library, an high ceilling space with huge window facing the valley and the mountains with a cosy mass-rocket-accumulation stove… Several exterior working tables and working areas under the pine trees or near the river. Our Art Residency is new, and we are constantly expanding our equipment with new tools and technical materials. To optimize space, and depending on the artists' projects, we set up different configurations, as well as various tools and equipment: lighted drawing table, paper storage units, tripods and stereoscopic cameras (vintage, analog, and digital), an A4 flatbed scanner, a basic black and white laser printer, easels, and benches, a basic vintage sewing machine, and basic tools for woodworking and metalworking. Residents have free access to the Eclectic Evolutiv library where they can find documentation, and inspiration, and to deposit their book and catalogs (or any book) they would like to share with future residents. In the main studio, there is a basic supply emergency fund and artists are encouraged when leaving We-Che to deposit here supplies and remains of their projects, to contribute to enrich the emergency supply and material fund

We-Che art Residency is an independent artist run project and is currently unable to provide financial support for visiting artists. For artists applying for grants and scholarships in their home country We-Che can provide official documents and letters of invitation as necessary.

Fees and support
This special format 25 days book residency, the fee is 1500$/resident
Our April call is particularly aimed to form a cohort of 3 or 4 book related creators
It is a half self directed half guided residency with a puntual grupal or individual mentorship
when needed to support each project and achieve each-one’s book in a 25 days residency from A to Z.
Residents are free to work on several books projects, and depending to affinities, to work together on a grupal book also
Expectations towards the artist
As the special format is for artists to achieve a book or an Art-book project, we expect residents to be ready to really intent to achieve at least one book.
Depending on the project, the final book can be digital format, or ready to print HD pdf, or few exemplar craft edited artbook
For more ambitious book projects, aiming to a final professional HD printing, if needed, an aditional complete professional graphic design and production support may be added with extra cost, (price based on time and on complexity)
