NIRMAN is an independent educational and cultural organisation based in Varanasi, India. Founded in 1990, it brings together a progressive school, professional artistic practice, research, and ecological restoration across its city campus and the Gangavan Forest riverside campus. For more than three decades, NIRMAN has welcomed artists, researchers, educators, students, and collaborators from around the world through residencies, study programmes, and artistic and academic exchanges.
Rooted in Varanasi, one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities, NIRMAN's work is shaped by the cultural, ecological and educational traditions of this place.
The NIRMAN Residencies offer time and space for sustained artistic and research practice within a living campus. Bringing together international cohorts of residents, the programme supports independent work while providing opportunities for dialogue across disciplines and practices.
