Virtual Event

The application process is often the first point of contact that artists will have with your program. What does this first impression communicate to your applicants? How does this experience set the tone and expectations for the relationship?
Each stage of the call, application, and selection process offers opportunities for you to demonstrate your organization’s values. How can you develop the most thoughtful, inviting application process? How can you ensure that your selection process is as transparent, inclusive, and accessible as possible?
Join us for this two-day intensive, where we will examine the many elements involved in designing a thoughtful invitation, application, and selection process. Learn from field professionals about the approaches that have been most effective and hear directly from artists about their experiences. These sessions will balance presentation, informal discussion, and break-out group exercises so that you can practice and share what you are learning with your colleagues, and develop actionable items to take away.

About ACA's Equitable Capacity Workshops (ECW)
ECW are nuts-and-bolts intensives designed to provide focused opportunities to:
- Gain insights from industry professionals about strategies and approaches that work to enhance access and equity in your residency programs;
- identify and understand barriers to success in particular areas;
- Connect with colleagues across the field; and
- Leave the workshop with actionable next steps to accomplish your goals.
“Equitable Capacity” is a term coined in 2019 by Artist Communities Alliance (ACA)'s President + CEO, Lisa Funderburke, and is defined as the facility or power to embody transparency and access across all areas of an organization, specifically its policies, processes, and practices.
This workshop series was created by ACA in alignment with the Five Pillars of a Healthy Residency framework and in response to common challenges among artist residency programs. They are designed to help foster more just and joyful residency experiences for artists, residency operators, and for the field.
