The Grand Marais Art Colony fosters the exploratory growth and experimental power of contemporary artists.
With the Boundary Waters to the north; Lake Superior to the south. We explore visual arts in that liminal space between. We exist to advance the aesthetic inquiries and experimentations of artists. We are an artist-centered space offering residencies, studio sessions, and exhibitions. We are a welcoming community that supports risk-taking and self-discovery; we are an immersive gathering place where you can germinate and exchange ideas, inspirations and techniques.
The Art Colony invites Minnesota Arrowhead regional artists working in two-dimensional mediums to submit applications for month-long exhibitions in its Gallery Store. Available months include May, June, July, August, September, and October. The Gallery Store is located downtown Grand Marais and is open May - October, Wednesdays - Saturdays, 10 am - 3 pm. **Application Timeline** * October 18, 2024 | Call for Artists Open * January 10, 2025 | Applications Close * January 20 - 24, 2025 | Notifications * June - September, 2025 | Exhibition Season; one-month exhibitions rotating The Art Colony Gallery Store receives and engages thousands of visitors from May - October and its new Gallery Store is downtown on Highway 61, in the main traffic corridor. This is a fee-based exhibition program at $600 per month. The Art Colony does not take a gallery split for any sales but does take 5% to cover processing fees. Artists will be paid out for any sales at the end of the month. Artwork needs to be exhibition-ready and able to hang on a Walker Hanging System. Exhibition rail is 20 feet in length.
