Overview  

The Media and Production: Professional Training Program (PTP) combines mentorship and formal instruction to help emerging practitioners refine their technical expertise while contributing to innovative digital storytelling in a collaborative professional environment.

Participants will work closely with lead faculty to collaborate and support the projects of the participants in the Indigenous Arts Digital Constellations: Production & Post-Production Residency 2026. The program offers practical experience and formal instruction in the areas of video production and post-production, audio, animation & graphics.

Description

Participants in this program expand their technical proficiency, nurture creativity, and advance knowledge of production and post-production processes under the supervision, mentorship of faculty, technical Banff Centre staff, and project-related artists within specific technical areas

Successful applicants will benefit from: 

  • deepened knowledge of industry trends and best practices
  • formal instruction on set etiquette, safety training, and specific workshops in each technical area
  • networking opportunities with other media professionals, professional faculty, artists in other disciplines, and invited guests
  • hands on experience in professionally equipped studio spaces

Instruction in specific technical areas:

  • Editor 

Gain hands-on training in transcoding, syncing, and sorting dailies, as well as offline and online editing. This specialization focuses on advanced color grading and audio mixing strategies using Avid Media Composer and Symphony, along with Adobe Photoshop and After Effects.

  • Video Production 

Develop technical and creative skills in studio and location video production, including lighting, camera operation, clapperboard use, camera notes, and production reports. Build proficiency in transcribing and strengthening communication between production and post-production crews.

  • Animation- Motion Graphics 

Enhance artistic and technical abilities in animation, motion graphics, and compositing. Develop a strong visual design foundation using industry-standard software while learning to assess project tasks and meet creative targets efficiently.

  • Audio Post

Train in ADR recording, dialogue mixing, music, and sound effects integration to create polished final audio mixes. Build expertise in balancing sound sources through equalization and audio effects using Pro Tools.

Additional Eligibility Information

Requirements

Combination of formal training and/or professional experience or aptitude in one or more of the following specializations:

  • Video production
  • Editing
  • Animation/Graphics
  • Audio

Applicants should be able to manage resources, produce to schedule, and multitask effectively with strong time management, diplomacy, and communication skills.

Eligibility

Applicants must be 18+ at the time of the program start date. 

Indigenous applicants are strongly encouraged to apply, and preference will be given where applicable. 

Domestic and international applications are welcome.

Visa Eligibility Information: 

  • Please note that Banff Centre programs do not meet the eligibility requirements for a Canadian Student Visa.
  • If you are accepted into our program, you must obtain a Visitor Visa to enter Canada. Accepted participants are responsible for identifying and complying with the immigration requirements to enter Canada as a visitor from their country of origin. If you require a Visitor Visa please check the current expected processing times well in advance of applying.
