Founded in 1981, by artists for artists, Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts facilitates the creation, presentation, and understanding of contemporary art through an international residency program, exhibitions, and educational programs. Located in the historic Old Market, Omaha’s arts and culture district, Bemis Center serves a critical role in the presentation and understanding of contemporary art, bridging the community of Omaha to a global discourse surrounding cultural production today.

Bemis Center’s core mission has always been to provide artists from around the world dedicated time, space, and resources to conduct research and to create new work across conceptual, material, performative, and social practices. The independently driven atmosphere and communal environment encourage creative growth, experimentation, confrontation of challenges, and cultivation of new ideas. To date, more than 1,000 artists have participated in the residency program.

The Steel Yard’s Year-long Residency program can assist you in growing and strengthening your creative industrial art practice. Residents receive an all-access pass to our 10,000 square foot studio, tools, resources, and community. All participants should display experience, and an avid interest, within their media and a desire to work in a community studio.

The Steel Yard supports emerging and mid-career artists working in the industrial-arts: ceramics, welding, blacksmithing, or jewelry. Year-long residents have the opportunity to reapply for a second year. 

Accepted residents are invited to take, or teach, courses, attend critiques, participate in exhibitions, vend at art markets, be paid to design and fabricate public art work, and be part of a vibrant community of makers.

Residents will be required to sign a contract detailing responsibilities, privileges, studio access, and safety procedures. Residents will also be expected to contribute at least 5 hours of work time to the department monthly, and to participate in organizational fundraisers and departmental clean ups. Upon completion of their term, residents should expect to provide the Steel Yard with 5 images of the work created during their term, or as a direct result of their time at the Yard.

La Porte Peinte is an international arts centre located in Noyers sur Serein, a medieval village in Burgundy that is celebrated as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France. Nestled within an elegant curve of the Serein river, the medieval cité of Noyers sur Serein sits in a pastoral northern Burgundy landscape of cherry trees, wheat fields, rolling meadows, forests and world-renowned vineyards. Deer, wild boar, pheasants and foxes roam the countryside, which is dotted with storied châteaux, quaint market towns and centuries-old stone abbeys. The UNESCO heritage site Vezelay is 30 minutes away.

Based in a rambling medieval half-timbered building that leans out over the village square like something from a fairy tale, La Porte Peinte offers artists, makers, musicians and writers in residence the opportunity to engage in creative exploration and exchange in an unusually inspiring and supportive environment. Doors opened in September 2011 with the first artists in residence and the launch of the 160 m2 ground-floor gallery, followed later by the opening of a café and a shop. La Porte Peinte’s five comfortable bedrooms are supplemented by four bedrooms in a nearby annex, another imposing and atmospheric medieval house. There are eight private studio spaces, along with workshop spaces and event spaces that are available for classes and performances. Along with residency accommodation, each creator in residence chooses from among those available the private studio space

Manship Artists Residency is dedicated to the preservation of an environmentally and historically significant site that has been given new life as an international, interdisciplinary artists residency for the benefit of the community and visitors to Cape Ann.

Manship Artists values those who challenge us to think differently and aims to create an environment where creativity and questions are encouraged and where all are welcome.

Manship is making special efforts towards racial and social equity by learning what traditionally underrepresented and underfunded artists need, and by developing effective solutions to serve them.

Individual Artist Residencies are focused on individual artists and/or small collaborative teams of all disciplines (literary, performing and visual arts) who wish to create work in the natural environment and in community with other artists. There is also time for play and rejuvenation - all in support of each artist’s goals, needs and interests.

This residency is open to artists of any discipline, career stage, and geographic location who are over the age of 18.

Lodging for the residency and a welcome meal on the first night are provided; artists purchase food and prepare their other meals; there are fully equipped kitchens in each cabin; sheets, bedding and towels are also provided.

Golden Apple Art Residency is situated within a very quiet and secluded spruce forest, approximately an hour north of Acadia National Park along the rocky coast of DownEast Maine. The residents' cottages, the studios, the multi-story art building and the main house are all less than two hundred feet from shore.

Golden Apple offers three sessions, each two weeks in length, during the summer and early fall. Each session includes four to six residents and includes all types of visual artists, including photographers and printmakers, as well as writers and composers. Residents are provided a fully furnished private cottage which includes a kitchenette, full bath and a spectacular view of the ocean. All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are professionally prepared and are healthy and delicious. The evening meal served each night in the dining room of the main house is a highlight. Dinner table conversation is spirited and enjoyable. Vegetarian and gluten-free diets can be accommodated.

Well-lit private studios with 24-hour access provide space for many disciplines and are equipped with typical studio furnishings as well as sinks, cabinets, easels, tables and taborets, cork boards, and the use of a medium-format Richeson etching press and other printmaking essentials. Writers and composers have the option of a quiet private studio located apart from the art-making studios, if desired. An equipped woodshop is available for use to artists and sculptors. For over 30 years, Kala Art Institute has awarded artists time, space, and financial support for their work through the Kala Fellowship. The Kala Art Institute Fellowship is an artist residency award for local, national, and international artists. Artists producing innovative work in and across mediums including printmaking, photography, digital media, social practice, film and video, sound, animation, performance cinema, media art installation, and book arts are encouraged to apply. Each year Kala provides fellowships to six artists from a variety of disciplines based on conceptual creativity, originality, and artistic excellence.

In 2024-2025, Kala will support six fellowship artists with a $3,000 stipend, unlimited access to Kala’s facilities for one to nine months, one month of free housing (artists living outside of the 9 San Francisco Bay Area counties), one Kala class, and a culminating show in the Kala Gallery. The Fellowship is geared towards supporting artists in completing specific projects or bodies of work that would benefit from Kala’s specialized equipment in printmaking and digital media.

AIRIE’s residency program provides artists the opportunity to live and work inside Everglades National Park, the largest tropical wilderness in the United States.

We connect artists with park rangers, scientists, biologists, cultural historians, and community leaders to promote the understanding of the unique ecosystem of the Everglades, and our environment at large. Experiences are tailored to the interests of each individual artist, creating opportunities for independence and solitude, as well as interaction, collaboration and public engagement.

This week-long residency provides space for 6 BIPOC artists of any discipline to retreat and create in community. The residency balances personal work time with group interaction and optional sharing of work or performance, as well as time for play and rejuvenation - all in support of each artist’s goals, needs and interests. Lodging provided. We hope to provide additional stipends (this is grant dependent).

Artists must:

• Reside in the state of Minnesota
• Identify as Black, Indigenous, Latinx, AAPI, SWANA-Arab American, or an artist of color
• Be over the age of 18

Kala's residency program serves over 150 artists annually. International, national, and local artists producing innovative work in printmaking, photography, digital media, film and video, sound, animation, media art installation, and book arts are encouraged to apply. Artists-in-Residence share space, equipment, techniques, and ideas and are a vital part of the Kala community. Artists receive 24/7 access to a shared 8,000-square-foot Print Studio, equipment, digital lab, black and white darkroom, and 3 individual artist project spaces (150-400 sq feet available to visiting artists).
