Through an annual open call process reviewed by a juried panel, two early career visual artists between 18-30 years old, who identify as African, Latine, Asian, Arab, and/or Native American descent, will be awarded a year-long fellowship including access to an exclusive studio space, extensive professional development, several weeks access to a private cottage, an artist fee, and a culminating exhibition at the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art. Fellows are encouraged to approach their fellowship from a place of exploration and growth, shaping new ideas and taking creative leaps, and working to develop their practice and skills to advance their professional creative pursuits.

The New York Community Trust Van Lier Fellowships in Visual Arts at Snug Harbor is closed for the 2026 application process. Stay tuned for next year’s open call, which will launch in February 2027.

In Cahoots Residency is a place of collaboration and creative energy, a rare opportunity for uninterrupted work time as well as dialog with other artists. The residency provides housing and studio space to emerging and professional artists working in a variety of mediums. Our pastoral location and light-filled studios for book art, letterpress, writing, and printmaking inspire artists to make new discoveries and leave with a renewed passion for their work. The residency hosts from three to five artists at a time for sessions ranging from one to three weeks long. Residents are provided private individual guest houses (with kitchens and full bathrooms) and 24-hour access to the spacious shared studios or the individual writing studio. With a focus on community and inclusion, we welcome adult artists of all ethnicities, religions, ages, physical abilities, genders, sexual orientations, financial statuses, and educational backgrounds.

nWilderHaven Artist Residency (WHAR)

The WilderHaven Artist Residency aims to gather artists, musicians, writers, scholars and local artisans, cultivating a space where creative minds converge to explore, experiment, and connect. In an era marked by a deepening awareness of individuality and the pursuit of freedom, WHAR serves as a sanctuary for interdisciplinary practices. As artists navigate foreign lands and cultures, their work becomes a bridge between traditions and contemporary thought, contributing to a broader understanding of existence and the ever-evolving relationship between art, science, politics, economics, and spirituality.

Residency Structure

• Cohort Size: 8-14 artists per season, representing diverse media and career stages.
• Program Length: 2-week or 4 week stays (4 weeks strongly encouraged for a fully immersive experience).

  2. Public Open Studio (final weekend)

Support & Flexibility

To keep fees accessible and creative freedom high, our team:

• Acts as on-site facilitators, not administrators—assisting with logistics, material sourcing, and technical questions as needed.
• Provides shared workspaces, amenities (kitchen, snack bar), and curated cultural excursions.
• Adapts living and studio arrangements to suit individual needs.

It is designed to foster creativity by removing some of the obstacles that keep artists from creating- space, time, and supplies- while providing new influences in an inspiring environment. Each season is unique and each residency experience evolves through the input of everyone present. 

Our Guest Artist Residency is for adult artists of all ages and disciplines seeking space, time, and a place to focus on their art. Guest Artist Residencies are specifically intended for professional individual artists or groups of artists looking for a shorter residency opportunity to work on a specific project, start a new creative endeavor, or put the finishing touches on a work.

Sable is off-the-grid! We live in the woods in Vermont’s Green Mountains. There is no electricity or wifi. We invite Artists to depart from their often hyper-connected routines in order to engage deeply with their surroundings and cultivate a community of care with one another.

We are specifically looking for artists confident in their creative processes, comfortable living in community, and willing to camp out for the duration of their stay.

Our residency program is dedicated to supporting the artistic investigation and creative practice of interdisciplinary artists and cultural workers from Oaxaca, the United States, and around the world.  This program embodies our belief that creative inquiry and intercultural dialogue is essential for imagining new possibilities and expanding collective understanding, fostering a shared culture of learning where artists & cultural workers cross disciplines, challenge narratives, and take creative risks.

A five week program, we host a mix of local and international residents  who engage deeply in investigation, conversation, and community connection through presentations, public workshops and an open studio. 

The Provincetown Community Compact announces 2026 dune shack residency applications are now open for C-Scape and Fowler Dune Shacks in the Cape Cod National Seashore, available April through November. Applications are due January 15, 2026. thecompact.org/dune-shacks.html

This artist retreat is an experience of solitude, reflection and experimentation. Artist residencies take place in the C-Scape Dune shack, which does not have running water or electricity. There is a kitchen equipped with a gas stove and refrigerator, and kerosene lamps and portable solar lights for lighting. Phone service is inconsistent and there is no Wi-Fi.

We offer three 3-week visual artist residencies, one for an emerging artist of color* that includes a $500 fellowship, named for the late David Bethuel Jamieson, a Black artist who spent time in Provincetown and died of AIDS in 1992. Another top juried artist will receive a $500 fellowship with their residency. 

The Compact also offers 1-week residencies for artists and the general public, and two 1-week funded residencies for writers.

*An emerging artist of color is defined as one who has yet to receive a major exhibition or showcasing opportunities and has not had extensive media coverage for their work. Artists of all ages may apply.

We also invite applicants to donate a voluntary "Honor Tax", which will be donated to the Native Land Conservancy, providing an opportunity to move beyond land acknowledgement.
