Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Residency

Ferreira do Zêzere, Portugal

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Residency aims to promote exploration and production in the Visual Arts. Artists can develop projects using a medium or a combination of technologies. Aviário Studio is an artist-run space with workshops equipped to develop works on Printmaking, Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Sculpture, Installation, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Bookbinding.

We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

The duration, focus and outcome of the residency is defined by the participating artist’s goals.

Core Residency Program

Houston, TX, United States

The Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston awards residencies to exceptional, highly motivated visual artists and critical writers who have completed their undergraduate or graduate training and are working to develop a sustainable practice. Established in 1982, the Core artist residencies encourage intensive and innovative studio practice; the Core critical studies residencies, added in 1998, provide an opportunity for writers to pursue independent curatorial and writing projects, broadening the scope of the critical dialogue that is central to the practices of all Core residents.

Residents engage with a wide range of distinguished artists, critics, curators, and scholars, who are invited to meet individually with the residents, lead seminars, and deliver public lectures. Core fellows participate in a yearlong seminar, the content of which is driven by contemporary concerns, the interests and work of the fellows, and the Core lecture series and visitors.

The Core residency term lasts nine months, from September to May, and fellows may apply to be readmitted for a second year. Each spring the program mounts an exhibition of work produced during the residency, which is accompanied by a publication to which the critical studies residents contribute texts based on their original research. Residents receive a 21,500 USD stipend, 24-hour access to a private studio or office, and borrowing privileges at the museum’s Hirsch Library and Rice University’s Fondren Library.

Mother's Milk Art Residency

Newton, KS, United States

,Mother’s Milk is a 2-6 week interdisciplinary residency, supporting three or four visual artists, sound artists, dancers/choreographers, and creative writers at a time pursuing innovative work in their field. The goal is to provide individuals or collaborative teams with the time and space to pursue creative projects alongside other residents whose different perspectives offer inspiration and interaction. Work more experimental in nature without regard to commercial viability is of special interest, a focus on process over product. Residents have studios in a 1,500 sq. ft. hay barn studio and share housing in a fully renovated 1898 farmhouse. No car is needed.

Location
Mother's Milk Residency is located in a restored former dairy farm at the edge of Newton, Kansas, tucked between farm fields, a light industrial park, and a travel hub. Our 15 acres are heavily wooded in most areas with some historic farm machinery left in place, where it has found a symbiosis with nature. The grounds offer opportunities for performance, installation, or a source of natural materials.

Nondiscrimination
Mother's Milk is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination and equal opportunity for all persons regardless of race, sex, color, religion, creed, national origin or ancestry, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or dis/ability.

Deadline
Applications are due February 10, 2024 for May 11 - November 8, 2024 residencies. Jury notification is mid-March.
