Rising: Climate in Crisis Residencies invite artists to be agents of change in guiding our collective understanding, response, and vision as we shape our shared future. 

We encourage artists to guide our collective response to this challenging issue while bringing wisdom, integrity, optimism, and even humor to intentional projects seeking transformation for our species and our planet. Southeast Louisiana’s land and inhabitants are continually challenged by the effects of environmental degradation. The 6-week residency takes place between September 2023 - May 2024 and includes a $3000 stipend and a $2000 supply budget. The call is open to artists of all disciplines who have demonstrated an established dialogue with environmental and cultural issues.

The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts offers residencies for a period of three weeks for ceramists, mixed media artists, painters, printmakers, and sculptors from April through October. The mission of the Foundation is to promote the visual arts and education in the arts through cultural exchanges. The studio space is a sanctuary for artists to explore, reflect and dialogue within the unique community created by each cohort of resident artists - informed and inspired by the flora, fauna and citizens of Skopelos.

Eligibility

• Printmaking and ceramics residents must have a solid working knowledge of their medium and respective studio equipment

• Ability to work independently

• Ability to navigate island terrain.

• Ability to interact with fellow artists in a positive, supportive manner.

Requirements:

• ·Residency proposals should have a coherent rationale, be relevant to the idea of cultural exchange, and demonstrate an awareness of the Foundation’s facilities.

• ·During the residency tourists may come through the studio. Artists are asked to cordially engage in conversation. These visits are infrequent, but important to the health of the organization.

• Artists will be asked to share a five-to-ten-minute presentation about their work during the residency. Each cohort will decide collectively with the Foundation director on the timing of this sharing exchange.

• The Foundation asks artists to leave one work in the permanent collection.

Create in Tranquility! Soaring Gardens Artists Retreat in the country outside of Laceyville, PA offers visual artists, writers, composers and other musicians   three week summer residencies between May & Sept. 

We have two resident/studio buildings accommodating a maximum of six artists. No application fee, no demands, simply spacious studios, pleasant rooms, nature and time. Applicants from historically marginalized communities are particularly encouraged to apply. We welcome both group and individual applications. Residents shop and cook for themselves.

Open AIR is a place-based Artist-in-Residence program that connects artists from all disciplines and origins with culturally, historically, and ecologically significant locations through collaborative partnerships in Montana.

With innovative opportunities available in places such as remote wilderness areas to historically significant sites closer to town, artists can draw inspiration from a regional community dedicated to preserving place, environment, and the arts.

In 2024 Open AIR has four sessions: Spring, Summer, Summer II, and Fall. We have residencies at 13 different sites in Montana, including; Selway Bitterroot Frank Church Wilderness; Flathead Lake Biological Station, Polson; Travelers' Rest State Park, Lolo; Butte, MT; Philipsburg, MT; Hamilton, MT; Clark Fork Coalition, Anaconda, MT In Missoula, Open AIR has residency sites at the Missoula Public Library, Missoula Butterfly House & Insectarium, Garden City Harvest, Moon-Randolph Homestead, Home ReSource, and Montana Natural History Center. 

Each residency provides a unique opportunity for artists to be embedded in a site that allows the artist to engage with place, and the communities and resources associated with each site. The residency is free, and housing and a modest stipend are provided. Artists are responsible for transportation and food.

Pedantic Arts Residency brings together an artist, a curator, and a writer under one roof for a collaborative arts experience. It is a unique invitation to open greater and more cross-disciplinary dialogue within the arts by re-embracing the significant impact that education, study, and structured contemplation can have on artistic output. It is focused on fostering artistic connections rather than production.

Running for a period of 4 weeks, participants will be immersed in the creative communities of Pittsburgh. Pedantic is located in one of the city’s largest and most bustling art hubs. The assets of this creative network will be offered as a meaningful point of influence for residents, while providing them with ample opportunities to advance their practices and share their talents and perspectives.

Pedantic will entail weekly programming including but not limited to lectures, dinners, studio visits, and museum tours. Many of these will be open to members of the larger public or specific invited guests, while others will be reserved as special opportunities just for the cohort. Residents will also have the unique opportunity to partner and collaborate with local organizations and professionals. Each resident will be assigned to a Pittsburgh-based guide working in a similar field who will help connect them to activities, resources, and contacts.

The residency can result in a myriad of outcomes, whether immediate or over time through the continued percolation of ideas.

The Volland Residency program provides time and space for creative practitioners of a wide range of disciplines to gather in a community setting for work, thought and exchange of ideas. Volland offers three rarities in today’s world: quiet, darkness, solitude. 

Volland is located in the Flint Hills of Kansas, nestled between working ranches with sweeping views of the tallgrass prairie, of which only 4% remains. It is the most endangered ecosystem in the world. We believe that this wide-open landscape can create a change in the creative trajectory of those who participate in the residency program at Volland.

The Volland Foundation is offering two-week and four-week residencies. Artists, writers, poets, musicians, performers, designers, historians, natural scientists, and leaders in the humanities are invited to apply. We are looking for applicants in all stages of their career and all areas of the globe. The Foundation welcomes people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.

The Volland Residency Program offers living and studio space with uninterrupted time and few distractions. The Foundation has no requirements to make or display work during residencies. However, if a resident wishes to give a presentation or offer an open studio, the foundation will support their efforts when possible.

Each resident is responsible for their travel and living expenses including food, toiletries and art supplies. All participants must have a car during their residency.

The multidisciplinary General Residency Program is our foundational residency structure. I-Park supports artists and designers working in the following creative disciplines: Music Composition, Creative Writing, Moving Image, Architecture, Landscape/Garden Design and Visual Arts.

Between 6 and 8 artists reside onsite for 4-week sessions. Residents are provided a private bedroom, a private studio and chef-prepared dinners five nights a week. Shared amenities include a communal kitchen, a Common Area for group gatherings, a library, 25 art/nature trails, wireless internet and a workshop outfitted with tools, materials and equipment.

I-Park’s resourceful staff is devoted to providing each artist with a fulfilling, productive, safe and comfortable live/work setting. Institutional demands on artists’ time are minimal. We aspire to provide competent, personalized support including removing distractions that could otherwise prevent them from realizing their most ambitious projects.

The residency program is set within an expansive nature preserve, with open fields, miles of walking trails and stone walls, ponds and streams – and a pristine river runs through it. We believe that this quiet, retreat-type environment is especially conducive to the creative process. Over the years, the land has inspired a passionate interest in site-responsive art.

Except for a $35 application fee, the residencies are fully funded.

Typically, between 50 and 60 residencies are awarded each year.

The Scherbarth Residency Program provides lodging and studio space to artists and makers in the visual, performing, and literary arts to participate in the creative community at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts, and the rural community of Mineral Point, Wisconsin. While living on our unique campus of historic and reproduction buildings, Scherbarth residents will be able to contribute in meaningful ways to the mission of Shake Rag Alley and participate in the creative ecosystem of the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin. Through the generosity of Jim Scherbarth, artists and makers will have access to the time and space needed to work and create, as well as to the nurturing environment of Mineral Point, and opportunities to network with its resident artists.

The Scherbarth Residency Program is open to artists and makers at any stage in their careers who can benefit from the residency’s cohort model, and wish to contribute in a meaningful way to community. Residents are expected to:

• Share their work in a public forum, which could include face-to-face models as well as social media.
• Contribute stewardship hours to the Shake Rag Alley campus. This could include snow removal, maintenance of common areas, assistance with administrative tasks, and caring for our historic buildings.
• Work on a project described in the application proposal.

To maximize flexibility and accessibility, residents may choose to be in residence from one week to six weeks.
