Established in 1934, The Hambidge Center is a sanctuary unlike any other dedicated to nurturing
creativity in all walks of life. On the historic 600-acre campus in the North Georgia Mountains, Hambidge
offers a national multidisciplinary residency program, innovative workshops, along with community
programs and a gallery. As the oldest residency program in the South, Hambidge has a long tradition of
excellence hosting artists, writers, dancers, musicians, chefs and scientists exploring their creative voices
while unplugging from everyday distractions. 

With the addition of the Antinori Village in 2023, Hambidge has expanded its programming to include workshops, curated projects, and public events, furthering its mission to nurture creativity. Inspiring workshops are modeled after the residency program welcoming eight individuals at a time to ensure deeper connection and crafted from the number of people that fit around the dinner table. The Cross-Pollination Art Lab in Atlanta also provides studio
space and dynamic arts programming. Through all its programs, Hambidge boldly promotes the creative
process and incubation of ideas in the widest diversity of people while building strong, supportive bonds
of community through open, respectful dialogue and shared experiences.

 The four-acre Villa Barr property, previously owned by internationally recognized artist David Barr and dancer Beth Dwaihy Barr, includes a home, studio and multiple sculpture installations in a park setting. Novi, Michigan (population 66,000) was founded as a township in 1832. Novi is equidistant (25 miles) from the centers of Detroit and Ann Arbor. The City’s public art program is designed to enrich the visual environment of the City of Novi by placing works of art that inspire the community.

Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts serves as a nexus for artists who create with clay. We foster the growth of artists at all career stages via residencies that prioritize the development of creative community. During a residency, artists work alongside one another in our open-concept studio while forging lasting connections.

Mission

The Wassaic Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, uses art and arts education to foster positive social change. We nurture connections between our artists and our neighbors facilitating a mutual broadening of perspectives and respect across economic and cultural boundaries.

The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts (VCCA) provides time and space for national and international writers, visual artists, and composers of talent and promise to bring forth their finest works, because the arts are vital, diversity is a strength, and creativity is essential.

Vermont Studio Center (VSC) was founded by artists in 1984. We welcome writers and artists for residencies in Johnson, Vermont, and host online programs and events. Our mission is to provide studio residencies in an inclusive, international community, honoring creative work as the communication of spirit through form. Our buildings, many of them historic Vermont landmarks, overlook the Gihon River in the northern Green Mountains.

Vashon Artist Residency supports artists by offering time, space, and resources to reflect, create and connect. 

Located on Vashon Island, in the heart of the Salish Sea, Vashon Artist Residency offers a peaceful waterfront retreat with comfortable, thoughtfully designed living and working spaces for visual, literary, performing, media and interdisciplinary artists.

Founded by visual artist Cathy Sarkowsky in 2021, this intimate residency was created from her desire to support artists in developing new work by offering a space that nurtures exploration—of practices, relationships and the opportunity to recharge physically, spiritually, and creatively.

Each year, we host more than 40 artists in small cohorts throughout the year, with 2 and 4 week sessions. To support accessibility, artists are invited to pay on a self-determined sliding scale from $0 to the full fee, based on their individual financial circumstances.

Artists of all backgrounds, identities and disciplines, including those of diverse races, gender identities, sexual orientations and geographic origins, are welcome at Vashon Artist Residency.

As a program of MASS MoCA, Assets for Artists was founded on the belief that artists are key contributors to vibrant communities and thriving economies. Through our residency program, The Studios at MASS MoCA, we give visiting artists from around the world the time and space for their own creative development, be it in project execution, reflection, or to simply try something new. Through our workshops and capacity-building grants, we support artists in advancing the business and financial goals

The Steel Yard’s historic campus is a platform for professional artists, makers, and the community to practice and learn the industrial arts. The organization fosters creative and economic opportunities, by providing workspace, tools, training, and education while forging lasting links to a local tradition of craftsmanship.

Ragdale is a nonprofit artist community located on the former country estate of Arts & Crafts architect Howard Van Doren Shaw and poet and playwright, Frances Wells Shaw. Through residencies, fully funded fellowships, and thematic collaborations, Ragdale annually supports approximately 150 artists, designers, and scholars from around the world, all of whom are seeking time and space to pursue distinctive works of the imagination.
