In 2017, the Murray- Holman family partnered with Collar Works to design a summer residency program for visual artists, with unique opportunities for individuals and families. Dedicated to supporting the legacy of Elizabeth Murray, Collar Works believes there is a kindred connection between its mission and what Murray’s story symbolizes to emerging artists, to those who are artists as well as parents, and to individuals who overcome adversity to achieve their vision.



The no-cost to attend, fully supported summer residency program is designed to accommodate 5-7 artists in residence per week, including onsite staff members. Artists are provided 24- hour access to semi-private studios, artist stipends, private bedroom accommodations, and shared bathroom facilities. Daily dinners are prepared by a chef-in-residence and served in a communal atmosphere to foster dialogue between residents. Breakfast and lunches will be provided. Artists will have the time and space to work in their studios to develop new works, with the opportunity to share in conversation with peers, meet with visiting curators (COVID permitting), and engage with the surrounding art communities.

Established in 2019 in the Hudson Valley in Livingston, NY, Interlude Artist Residency is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting a flourishing practice for visual artists who are actively parenting. Interlude provides residency stays and professional development tailored to the unique needs of these artists.

The Parent Grant is a four-week residency for an artist with at least one dependent child under the age of 18. Artists may choose to work in any of our studio disciplines: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, photography, or ceramics.

This grant includes a $1450 childcare stipend, up to $250 for travel costs, free onsite housing, and 24/7 studio access. WSW can also provide technical advice and production assistance.

The $1450 childcare stipend can be used at the artist’s discretion, though a childcare plan must be submitted with the application. Possible childcare scenarios include:

• Bringing a caregiver or co-parent (must be 18+) to stay at WSW for the residency period
• Finding a childcare facility near WSW
• Locating individuals near WSW who can provide childcare
• Paying for childcare at your family’s home base

If you plan to bring your child/children and are in need of childcare, WSW recommends using care.com to locate area providers. WSW cannot assist applicants in finding childcare options.

If your child/children are coming with you, WSW can provide a two-bedroom apartment (with one single bed, one double, and one single pull-out couch) that has a bathroom and an open kitchen/living area. The maximum occupancy is four. Please note that, for safety reasons and to maintain a focused working environment, children cannot be in the studios where artists are working.

Fountainhead Residency provides artists with connections to thrive in their careers and a nurturing environment to create, converse, inspire and be inspired.

During each month-long residency, artists are personally introduced to nationally recognized curators, collectors, and gallerists for one-on-one studio visits, offering a one-of-kind opportunity for mentorship, insight, and perspective on their work. They are invited to experiment, investigate, and reflect, while being immersed in the local cultural landscape. Artists-in-residence receive roundtrip airfare, living and working accommodations and a stipend. They meet local artists and explore Miami’s major museums, collections and galleries. Attorneys, financial professionals and business consultants are available for critical entrepreneurial guidance.

At the end of each month, Fountainhead welcomes the public into the residency to meet the artists, view their work, and learn what inspires them. In pursuit of supporting artists financially, works are made available for sale, and the organization works directly with the artist and honors any gallery representation agreements to facilitate these sales. The Santa Fe Art Institute Thematic Residency Program supports dynamic creative practices that engage complex social issues, inspire individual transformation, and inform collective action. SFAI welcomes local, national, and international applicants of all backgrounds.

From the start, SFAI’s programming was developed and informed by artists, who worked to bring awareness to the shifting relationship between art and society, and to redefine and disrupt the traditional gatekeeping roles of art institutions, including outdated labels such as “master” artist.

While our programming, language, and focus has naturally shifted over the years, our mission has remained the same: to foster and explore the interconnections of contemporary art and society, to enliven public discourse on art, and to support and nurture artists at all phases of their careers.

Applications are accepted once a year for our annual theme, which includes our Family Residency Month in July.

Our residencies are free-of-charge, apart from an application fee (which is currently being reconsidered for 2024) and a refundable $150 security deposit.

Starting in 2023, SFAI will be offering $500 stipends to up to 28 regional BIPOC artists and creative practitioners who are awarded a residency. SFAI does not offer any other stipend or financial aid, nor does it act as a fiscal sponsor to residents. Saltonstall offers free residencies to artists and writers who are current residents of New York State and/or one of the Indian Nations located therein. Our residencies are designed for those looking for a quiet, supportive environment in which to focus on their craft.

We offer 1- to 4-week sessions between June and October.

The week-long residency in early June is dedicated to artist/writer parents with at least one dependent child under the age of 18 at home. This residency is designed for the artist/writer parent alone. We are not able to accommodate children, spouses, partners, or collaborators.

Each residency session includes the same combination of five artists and writers: one poet, one fiction or creative nonfiction writer, one photographer or filmmaker, and two visual artists. These residencies are designed for individual artists and writers; we cannot accommodate collaborations or partners working together.

All residencies (incl. the residency for artist/writer parents) function exactly the same way. Each group of five arrives and leaves together, and the application process for all residencies is also exactly the same.

The Good Hart Artist Residency offers 10-21 day residency stays to visual artists, writers, and composers at any stage of their career. Each artist is housed in a private residence with a detached studio and provided with a $500.00 stipend, a kitchen stocked with basic foods, a few home-cooked meals from local hosts, and a quiet setting along the shores of Lake Michigan. Tucked into the woods along the “Tunnel of Trees,” a Scenic Heritage Route, residents can walk into the village of Good Hart, enjoy Lake Michigan and the nearby sand dunes, and explore Northern Michigan’s inland lakes and wetlands. The Good Hart Artist residency generally hosts one resident at a time, offering each artist the time, space, and quiet to focus and create. 

Community is central to the mission of the Good Hart Artist Residency. Open Studio Saturdays offer visual artists an opportunity to share their work with local residents for one Saturday during their stay, and the annual Harbor Springs Festival of the Book connects resident writers to both local and literary communities. Each artist collaborates with a local nonprofit organization during their stay to lead an educational event, workshop, or exhibition. For over 30 years, Kala Art Institute has awarded artists time, space, and financial support for their work through the Fellowship and Media Arts Fellowship programs. This opportunity is open to local, national, and international artists based on conceptual creativity, originality and artistic excellence, and project specific technical knowledge.

Artists working in and across printmaking, photography, or digital media arts are encouraged to apply to Kala's Artist-In-Residence program. Kala's printmaking studio, digital lab, and darkroom are shared facilities. Resident artists receive year-round 24-hour access to the printmaking workshop and/or media center, individual storage space, possible exposure on Kala’s website and in other exhibitions at Kala, and participation in a vital, international artistic community.

Artists may apply for 1-, 2-, or 3-month residencies, and must specify the desired residency length in the application. Please review our contract rates here to determine what option works best for you; 6-month residencies are available to continuing and returning Artists-in-Residence who have completed a 3-month residency.

Applications are reviewed three times per year: January 15, May 15, and October 15 by Kala’s Artistic Director/Co-Director, Artist Residency Manager, Kala’s print studio manager, and Digital Lab Manager. The jury considers skill in the proposed project area that matches the resources available at Kala, along with artistic and conceptual strength.
