Cave Canem supports the work of Black poets through a suite of core programs, namely an annual retreat consisting of intensive poetry workshops and readings, hosted at the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg.

The retreat offers an unparalleled opportunity for Cave Canem Fellows to study with esteemed faculty, and to join an expansive community of peers. Fellows write from a range of poetic traditions: blues; confessional; experimental; dramatic; lyric; narrative; performance; political; etc.

Due to our generous community of institutional funders and individual donors, there is no submission fee for the Fellowship application and the retreat is free to all Fellows.

6okken is an artist-run residency in Oishi, a small village on the north shore of Lake Kawaguchi at the foot of Mt. Fuji, about two hours from Tokyo by bus. Six houses stand together, and the artists who run 6okken live and work in the same cluster. Each resident or group has a whole house with its own kitchen and bathroom, plus a shared studio.

Terms are 26 nights, eleven times a year, and applications are open year-round. Artists, writers, curators and researchers of any nationality and discipline are welcome, on their own, in pairs, as small teams or with family. We meet each resident online before they arrive, pick them up at Kawaguchiko Station with lunch, drive them for research and shopping up to twice a week, and write letters for their grant applications. There is no required final presentation.

WVU Libraries’ Art in the Libraries Program is now accepting applications for the 2027 Artist in Residence (AIR) Program, centered on the theme Common Threads: Industry, Labor & Community. 

The residency connects contemporary artists with the extensive Industry, Labor, and Community collections housed at the West Virginia & Regional History Center (WVRHC). Creatives across visual art, writing, dance, performance, book arts, digital media, and cultural heritage are invited to dive into union records, company town archives, oral histories, and community papers to develop transformative projects that honor, reframe, and elevate West Virginia’s diverse working-class heritage and cultural identity.

The Art in the Libraries Program at WVU Libraries highlights artistic expressions that stimulate interdisciplinary discussion and complement the university’s academic mission. The West Virginia & Regional History Center (WVRHC) is the premier repository for historical documentation pertaining to West Virginia and the central Appalachian region. 

Aunt Karen’s Farm is an incubator residency site for individuals, families and companies whose life and work involves a professional relationship to the arts and education community. Amid the natural landscape of rural New York, we believe that creativity and learning are enriched and grow from focused explorations between disciplines. The pastoral landscape encourages a philosophical dialogue between culture and agriculture. We encourage programs which are environmentally sustainable and nurture an appreciation of the land. We welcome residencies that refresh and restore vision and purpose. ​We are process, not product driven. Aunt Karen’s Farm provides a site for cultivation of both earth and spirit. 

Catskill Art Space (CAS) explores contemporary art practices of emerging and established artists. Through exhibitions, performances, classes, lectures and screenings, CAS fosters creative community in the Catskills.

With exhibition space spanning two floors and four galleries, CAS aspires to be a regional arts destination, delivering programming that is diverse, dynamic, and life-enriching. CAS promotes the visual and performing arts of, by, and for our communities, including world-class artists, local artists, and arts education.

CAS regularly offers opportunities to show work in our venues, and we welcome submissions from artists and arts groups through an annual call for exhibition proposals. Exhibitions are complemented by a wide range of public programs, including dance and music performances, artist talk backs, film screenings, lectures, and community gatherings. 

CAS also empowers emerging and established artists of all ages to deepen their practices through various educational opportunities. 

Modern Accord Depot, a passion project of Choreographer Chase Brock and Conductor Rob Berman is a 2019 reimagining of the 1902 New York, Ontario & Western Railway depot in Accord, NY.

Our approach to this renovation included the careful preservation of many vintage elements including the original entry dormer and ornament, the clapboard siding, the waiting room doors (no longer in use) and hardware, the ticket window, the barn door leading into the freight room, the ceiling beams and steel rafter ties in the freight room, and even a 1940s caboose, placed in the side yard by the previous owner, where it now rests on 100 feet of railroad track just a few feet from where the original track ran.

Modern Accord Depot, in addition to preserving New York, Ontario & Western Railway architecture, artifacts and history, is a dynamic arts residency space and one-of-a-kind Hudson Valley getaway serving dual populations: artists or non-profit arts organizations in need of residency space for creative meetings, research, workshops and rehearsals, and travelers (solo, couples and families) from near and far, in search of unforgettable vacation experiences.
