Create in Tranquility! Soaring Gardens Artists Retreat in the country outside of Laceyville, PA offers visual artists, writers, composers and other musicians   three week summer residencies between May & Sept. 

We have two resident/studio buildings accommodating a maximum of six artists. No application fee, no demands, simply spacious studios, pleasant rooms, nature and time. Applicants from historically marginalized communities are particularly encouraged to apply. Chulitna Lodge Wilderness Retreat seeks to provide the time, space, clarity and facilities for all forms of creative professionals or enthusiastic hobbyists to make and meditate. From visual artists, to writers, to scientific researchers, music, dance and more we encourage all to apply for our various programs. 

Chulitna Lodge is 180 miles from the nearest road, with fly-in access only; a historical landmark on the shores of Lake Clark National Park. We facilitate this creative residency program for all to gather and learn in this pristine setting. 

Our Mission: to share a love for responsible exploration of our worlds most remote locations, with the intent of passing forward the value of maintaining such places wild, and to personally reap the benefits of life a world apart. 

The Volland Residency program provides time and space for creative practitioners of a wide range of disciplines to gather in a community setting for work, thought and exchange of ideas. Volland offers three rarities in today’s world: quiet, darkness, solitude. 

Volland is located in the Flint Hills of Kansas, nestled between working ranches with sweeping views of the tallgrass prairie, of which only 4% remains. It is the most endangered ecosystem in the world. We believe that this wide-open landscape can create a change in the creative trajectory of those who participate in the residency program at Volland.

The Volland Foundation is offering two-week and four-week residencies. Artists, writers, poets, musicians, performers, designers, historians, natural scientists, and leaders in the humanities are invited to apply. We are looking for applicants in all stages of their career and all areas of the globe. The Foundation welcomes people from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.

The Volland Residency Program offers living and studio space with uninterrupted time and few distractions. The Foundation has no requirements to make or display work during residencies. However, if a resident wishes to give a presentation or offer an open studio, the foundation will support their efforts when possible.

Each resident is responsible for their travel and living expenses including food, toiletries and art supplies. All participants must have a car during their residency.

The Scherbarth Residency Program provides lodging and studio space to artists and makers in the visual, performing, and literary arts to participate in the creative community at Shake Rag Alley Center for the Arts, and the rural community of Mineral Point, Wisconsin. While living on our unique campus of historic and reproduction buildings, Scherbarth residents will be able to contribute in meaningful ways to the mission of Shake Rag Alley and participate in the creative ecosystem of the Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin. Through the generosity of Jim Scherbarth, artists and makers will have access to the time and space needed to work and create, as well as to the nurturing environment of Mineral Point, and opportunities to network with its resident artists.

The Scherbarth Residency Program is open to artists and makers at any stage in their careers who can benefit from the residency’s cohort model, and wish to contribute in a meaningful way to community. Residents are expected to:

• Share their work in a public forum, which could include face-to-face models as well as social media.
• Contribute stewardship hours to the Shake Rag Alley campus. This could include snow removal, maintenance of common areas, assistance with administrative tasks, and caring for our historic buildings.
• Work on a project described in the application proposal.

To maximize flexibility and accessibility, residents may choose to be in residence from one week to six weeks.

Byrdcliffe’s Artists-in-Residence (AiR) program offers artists in all disciplines uninterrupted time to live and work within the serene natural setting and creative community of Woodstock’s historic Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, one of the earliest utopian and continuously operating arts colonies in America. 

Artist residency options include month-long communal sessions and 5-month long independent cottage residencies during the summer months, as well as independent residencies in our year-round cottages which range from 3-months to a year. As part of the AiR program, artists are invited to participate in gatherings, talks, practice shares, studio visits, excursions, open studio events, and the annual AiR exhibition the spring after their residency.

The main criterion for acceptance to Byrdcliffe’s AiR program is artistic excellence and demonstrated commitment to one’s field of endeavor. Artists working in a range of disciplines are encouraged to apply including writing, visual arts, weaving, ceramics, music, composition, photography, filmmaking, dance, and multi-disciplinary practices.  A selection of artistic merit and financial need fellowships are available each year, covering partial to full residency fees.

Sculpture Space seeks to build appreciation for the role of contemporary art and artists in society through residencies and other programs for outstanding sculptors that foster creative exploration, community collaboration, public engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Because sculpture has the power to positively transform society, we support sculptors and nurture public  discourse about important art issues. We posit that a robust sculpture realm yields greater public well- being.The studio is located in Utica New York (12 Gates St), close to downtown, in proximity to light industry and various fabrication shops. The collaborative environment of the studio and the communal aspects of the residence help foster dialogue, exchange of ideas, creative experimentation and both personal and professional connections. The 5,500 square foot facility consists of 3,800 square feet of open studio space and six enclosed semi-private studios. The studio is outfitted with concrete floors, a two ton system of traveling hoists, and extra wide overhead doors. Both studio and house provide wireless access and artists may borrow available digital equipment. The 3⁄4 acres of land surrounding the building can supplement indoor studio space during certain times of the year. An  outdoor work pad is equipped with a 50' monorail hoist. BOOM Concepts is a creative hub dedicated to the advancement of Black, Brown, Queer and Femme artists. BOOM Concepts is located in Pittsburgh and since 2014 has curated 50 exhibitions on-site, paid out over $100k in artists fees and produced 200+ events across the country. BOOM Concepts serves as a space for field building, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and storytelling. In its 8th soon to be 9th year, BOOM Concepts continues to work with creatives to find innovative strategies around entrepreneurship and artistic practice. In 2021, BOOM Concepts was selected to represent Pittsburgh for the Google Arts & Culture platform and was identified as an American Cultural Treasure through The Heinz Endowments and The Ford Foundation.

The BOOM Universe Residency at Alloy Studios is an in-house program that hosts multiple visiting artists quarterly. BOOM Concepts supports visiting artists in a multitude of ways including housing (the space includes full kitchen, bathroom, studio/practice area, and an area for rest), creative practice support, an opportunity to participate in BOOM programming, connecting visitors with Pittsburgh’s art ecosystem, along with allowing for space for rest from their busy careers. BOOM’s main support is focused on the advancement of Black, brown, femme and queer artists, and creative entrepreneurs understanding the need for such experiences that are vital to ones career growth.
