Mattering Worlds is an international media art residency exploring artistic practice in relation to more-than-human ecologies, technological infrastructures, and environmental transformation. Hosted by Ars Techne in Armenia, the program brings together artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners working across disciplines such as media art, sound, bioart, speculative design, and critical technology studies.

The residency supports research-driven and process-based artistic work that engages with ecological responsibility, situated knowledge, and experimental forms of collaboration. Participants are encouraged to develop projects that reflect on planetary conditions, local contexts, and the entanglements between human and non-human agencies. Rather than focusing solely on production, the program emphasizes dialogue, field inquiry, collective learning, and public engagement.

Residents take part in workshops, site visits, reading sessions, and open studio moments, while also contributing to Ars Techne’s public program through talks, presentations, or small-scale interventions. The residency aims to foster meaningful exchange between international and local communities, strengthen interdisciplinary networks, and create space for critical reflection on how artistic practices can respond to contemporary ecological and technological challenges.

nWilderHaven Artist Residency (WHAR)

The WilderHaven Artist Residency aims to gather artists, musicians, writers, scholars and local artisans, cultivating a space where creative minds converge to explore, experiment, and connect. In an era marked by a deepening awareness of individuality and the pursuit of freedom, WHAR serves as a sanctuary for interdisciplinary practices. As artists navigate foreign lands and cultures, their work becomes a bridge between traditions and contemporary thought, contributing to a broader understanding of existence and the ever-evolving relationship between art, science, politics, economics, and spirituality.

Residency Structure

• Cohort Size: 8-14 artists per season, representing diverse media and career stages.
• Program Length: 2-week or 4 week stays (4 weeks strongly encouraged for a fully immersive experience).
• Key Events:
  1. Open-Format Artist Presentations (mid-season)
  2. Public Open Studio (final weekend)

Support & Flexibility

To keep fees accessible and creative freedom high, our team:

• Acts as on-site facilitators, not administrators—assisting with logistics, material sourcing, and technical questions as needed.
• Provides shared workspaces, amenities (kitchen, snack bar), and curated cultural excursions.
• Adapts living and studio arrangements to suit individual needs.

• Yunnan Province (tropical ethnic cultural hubs)
• Guizhou Province (ethnic Yi and Miao regions)
• Sichuan Province 

Fergus Falls is a regional hub of arts and culture in West Central Minnesota, with a variety of organizations and spaces dedicated to visual arts, dance, performance, and artistic development. For the last 15 years, Springboard for the Arts’ rural headquarters in Fergus Falls has supported local artists in developing their careers, while building a national network of relationships and advocacy about the importance of the arts and artists in rural places. Springboard has brought together over 1,500 rural artists to Fergus Falls through programs like the Rural Regenerator Fellowship, the Rural Futures Summit, and more. 

In partnership with organizations and businesses, the Falls Community Arts Exchange invites artists to Fergus Falls who are interested in growing their own practice in a supportive environment or completing a collaborative local project. Visiting artists reside in a beautiful one-bedroom apartment in downtown Fergus Falls, and have access to support from Springboard staff, connections to local artists and leaders, and more. 

A coalition of local host partners play a key role in the Falls Exchange by sharing their own place-based processes and strategies with visiting artists, connecting artists to local community goals, and providing a supportive network for the artists to engage with local residents.  

We’re delighted to partner with the Fergus Falls Public Library, Outstate Brewing, and Victor Lundeen Company for our 2026-27 Exchange. 

The Water & Rock artist residency invites creatives and writers in the traditional and picturesque village of Kazaviti on the island of Thassos. The village is nestled in the mountains, surrounded by forest and natural springs, bursting with history.

Nature is at the center of everything we do at Water & Rock, we want to bring awareness to the beauty and importance of the fauna and flora of the island in an aim to build a greater sense of interdependence, for now and for future generations, human and non-human. 

We invite you to spend some time here and soak up the beauty and energy the landscape has to offer. There is no doubt that the scenery, wildlife and history will inspire you to create something beautiful. The island will be generous to you, and your gift back to her will be your creativity which in turn will inspire others to look at nature differently and cherish the richness, beauty and life that it brings.

Each residency will be themed in line with the cycles of nature of that month.

We will be offering many creative outdoor activities including hikes, nature guided walks, outdoor art days, social gatherings, teachings and more.

Your host Leah Heming is a passionate nature guide, artist and people lover. She has over 10 years’ experience in the commercial art gallery business, 20 years in the publishing and animation business, and 5 years of living a simpler life on the island of Thassos. Leah can't wait to get creative with you and show you around the island!

Woodstock AIR, CPW's nationally recognized artist-in-residence program, was established in 1999. It is committed to providing direct support to artists who are working with photography and expanding the critical dialogue around diversity, race, and identity in the context of social justice. The one-month residencies allow photographers the time and space to break new ground, complete ongoing projects, and advance their artistic vision within an environment that has inspired artists for over a century. To date, over 175 artists have participated, including LaToya Ruby Frazier, Deana Lawson, and Paul Mpagi Sepuya.

The 2026 Woodstock AIR’s will be selected by an all-star jury including: Tia-Simone Gardner, artist, educator, and Black feminist learner; Alisa Swindell, Associate Curator of Photography at the Hood Museum of Art; Stephanie Hueon Tung, Byrne Family Curator of Photography at the Peabody Essex Museum; and Carla Williams, photographer, archivist, editor, and writer. The Trinacria Festival Residency is a 3-week, community-centered program designed for professional artists whose work directly engages the Pezzolo community. The dates of the program are July 24 - August 13, 2026.

We will select five to six artists or small collectives (no more than 3 collaborators) whose practices engage with Pezzolo in thoughtful and meaningful ways—through collaboration, cultural exchange, site-responsive work, or processes shaped by dialogue with the village and its landscape.

Selected artists will develop individual projects (new or evolving) that culminate in a public presentation at the annual Trinacria Arts Festival. Community engagement and participation is at the core of this Festival. 

Artists will receive:

• A structured residency environment
• Regular group sharings and workshops
• Accommodation and meals
• Local transportation support
• Workspace
• A small materials budget
• Support in developing a public presentation for the festival

The experience offers artists the opportunity to create in a dynamic environment while fostering meaningful connections with the local community.  It is ideal for artists excited by community connection, interdisciplinary exchange, and the challenge of shaping a new or evolving work toward a shared public moment.

The Pezzolo Retreat Residency is a self-directed creative retreat designed for artists seeking uninterrupted time and space to explore, rest, and experiment. 

The residency is designed to provide time, space, and freedom, allowing each participant to set their own goals and rhythms.

Open to individual artists or small groups of up to three collaborators, across any discipline—visual arts, performing arts, writing, music, dance, or interdisciplinary practices. 

We encourage applicants who:

• Value self-directed, reflective, and experimental work.
• Are curious, open, and respectful of a shared residency environment.
• Appreciate slowing down and engaging deeply with their process, rather than focusing on a finished product.
• May wish to share their work informally with fellow residents or the local community, though this is entirely optional.
• Are inspired by natural surroundings and a remote village setting, and who might draw creatively from this unique context.

There are no strict requirements for public presentations or collaborative outcomes, besides a final reflection practice. Participants may choose to take part in a small, informal sharing if they so wish.  

The Provincetown Community Compact announces 2026 dune shack residency applications are now open for C-Scape and Fowler Dune Shacks in the Cape Cod National Seashore, available April through November. Applications are due January 15, 2026. thecompact.org/dune-shacks.html

This artist retreat is an experience of solitude, reflection and experimentation. Artist residencies take place in the C-Scape Dune shack, which does not have running water or electricity. There is a kitchen equipped with a gas stove and refrigerator, and kerosene lamps and portable solar lights for lighting. Phone service is inconsistent and there is no Wi-Fi.

We offer three 3-week visual artist residencies, one for an emerging artist of color* that includes a $500 fellowship, named for the late David Bethuel Jamieson, a Black artist who spent time in Provincetown and died of AIDS in 1992. Another top juried artist will receive a $500 fellowship with their residency. 

The Compact also offers 1-week residencies for artists and the general public, and two 1-week funded residencies for writers.

*An emerging artist of color is defined as one who has yet to receive a major exhibition or showcasing opportunities and has not had extensive media coverage for their work. Artists of all ages may apply.

We also invite applicants to donate a voluntary "Honor Tax", which will be donated to the Native Land Conservancy, providing an opportunity to move beyond land acknowledgement.
