For our inaugural residency season, Headwaters is inviting applications from writers and artists of all experience level. Apply for a week-long residency solo or with a creative partner. Come to the heart of the White Mountains to nurture the sources of your creativity and let this residency influence your projects the way the headwaters of these mountain streams carve the landscape on their way to the Atlantic.

The White Mountains of New Hampshire have forever inspired artists and writers. Check out Thomas Cole or Henry David Thoreau. But the art scene is alive and evolving. While you'll find yourself in a rural outpost, you can walk from the house to downtown Bethlehem, NH, where you can visit the local art gallery, see a concert at the small theater, or pour through pages at our iconic bookstore. A short drive will take you to countless trailheads. We (and previous residents) will recommend our favorite places to strike inspiration: the best river sits, sunset spots, jaw-dropping views, hikes, skis, and trees. We'll provide some hiking basics to get you outside (maps, guidebooks, poles, headlamps).

Replenish Residencies provides 1-2 week restorative visioning retreats to local BIPOC artists and culture bearers; the heart of New Orleans culture. In light of the many racial disparities still present in our society at large and the arts economy specifically, we offer these residencies to provide time to rest and restore, vision, and create. The call is open to BIPOC artists and culture bearers from the Greater New Orleans area who have not attended a residency before. 

The Studio focuses on interrelated areas of programming, including residencies for artists and scholars, forest restoration, and science-inspired art engagement for children and adults. The artist residency program of The Truro Center for the Arts at Edgewood Farm is a program that began in 2017, developed to encourage the development of creative, intellectual and personal growth of emerging and established artists. It works in collaboration with our distinguished educational facility at the Castle Hill Campus, whose mission is to foster the arts for the local and regional community.  The Truro Center for the Arts at Edgewood Farm will focus on the development of “the artistic process”  by providing artists a beautiful place to work for an extended period of time.  The residency program at Edgewood Farm will strive to bring a broader artistic cultural conversation to the local community and economy of the Outer Cape.

The Truro Center for the Arts at Edgewood Farm sits on  nearly 7.5 bucolic acres adjacent to the Cape Cod National Seashore, the Atlantic Ocean and town conservation land.  The residency provides artists an opportunity to be in a quiet and contemplative place, within walking distance to the dunes, natural forests, bike trails, ponds and spectacular beaches that are rated among the top ten most beautiful in the world.  At a time when the natural environment is at risk, Edgewood Farm will offer artists a place to regain a connection to the natural world and draw inspiration from the environment.  

Approximately 3-6 artists a month will have uninterrupted time to work in 4 studios.  

The Arrowmont Artists-in-Residence Program provides early career, self-directed artists time, space and support to experiment and develop a new body of work in a creative supportive community environment of 140 rotating visiting workshop artists/instructors, national and regional media conferences/symposia and hundreds of students. The program encourages early career artists who embrace community and enjoy working in a team environment to apply. Each year, five artists working in different media are selected to participate in the 11-month program, which begins in mid-June and continues through mid-May of the following year. Artists are given a monthly stipend, shared housing with private bedrooms and meals (during workshop sessions), and a private well-lit studio with climate control, a basic worktable, shelving and sink. Professional Development and Health and Wellness funding opportunities are available. Additionally, there are teaching opportunities through Arrowmont's community class and ArtReach programs. At the conclusion of the program, residents exhibit their work collectively in Arrowmont’s main gallery. The successful resident is eager to be involved with Arrowmont’s diverse existing program offerings such as workshops, conferences, events and exhibitions. Candidates who enjoy the team spirit in working with staff, other residents and visiting artists/instructors are encouraged to apply.

The ART-14 Residency, in conjunction with the L.a. Studio community’s art outreach and programming, was founded in 2023 as a haven for artists looking for a comfortable, collaborative, and creative space to explore their art and concentrate on their projects, while our local community simultaneously benefits from the activity at L.a. Studio.

We are located in the renovated St. Mary’s School building (constructed in 1912), which features 12-foot high ceilings and large 7-foot windows, with plenty of natural daylight and spacious workspaces for various artistic disciplines. Artists have 24h access to designated studio spaces including ceramics, stained glass, woodworking, and 3D printing/laser engraving equipment, as well as tons of open studio space for painting, sculpting, writing/composing, research, recording, and whatever else our artists can dream. Residents reside in newly renovated apartments conveniently located above the studios, on the second floor. Private rooms are available with shared access to kitchens, bathrooms, laundry, and a fully equipped gym.

Mentorship Residency Program

The Indigo Arts Alliance studio located in Portland, Maine is the host site for our Mentorship Artists Residency program. This program is the heart of IAA, modeling our values of global community building. Our goal is to bring together artists from diverse backgrounds of the African Diaspora to engage in their creative process, while building lasting relationships rooted in co-mentorship. We believe artists hold the key in creating a better world, and in our work, we allow for Black and Brown voices to lead the way.

The Mentorship Residency Program is a pioneering residency concept that serves as an arts incubator with generous workspace and modern facilities enabling the creative work of visual artists across disciplines. We foster mentorship by pairing two artists together during a residency period to cultivate rich conversation, collaboration, and exchange experiences, knowledge, art industry information and technical skills. The artist-pairing consists of a National or International artist who is traveling to the state of Maine from their respective homes to be in residence with a Local/Regional artist. The goal of the pairing is to build positive relationships that enhance the individual artists as human beings and thought leaders. We want to create healthy relationships for artists of color who are navigating their art practice and create avenues of success that build networks.

If you ever dreamed of spending an extended period of time in Cuba simply making art, then this residency is ripe for your consideration. Run by CubaSeen and Santa Fe Workshops, this nine-day residency in Havana offers an immersive program that provides time and space to focus on your creative process inspired by the culture of the city’s thriving arts scene with structured direction and feedback from Cuba’s fine-art professionals.

This is a unique opportunity to travel to Cuba legally while enjoying constructive artistic feedback mixed with unstructured time to think, feel, and create art. The residency culminates with an exhibition at a gallery space in Old Havana.

This residency allows you the time to explore, reflect, and engage your natural curiosity as an artist with support and feedback from influencers in Havana’s sophisticated art community. Homebase is CALIS HAVANA, a boutique hostel in the leafy suburb of Vedado. This renovated 20th Century mansion includes comfortable guest rooms with shared common areas to meet, review work, and share meals.

In addition to accommodations and workspace, the residency offers structured critiques with Cuban artists and curators including Nelson Ramírez de Arellano, Director of the Wifredo Lam Contemporary Art Center and Havana Art Biennial. Visits to galleries and artist’s studios further enrich the program’s outreach.

This residency complies with US Treasury Department General License requirements for legal travel to Cuba.
