Creative Residency at O Castro Art Village

O Saviñao, Lugo, Spain

O Castro Art Village is a rural creative residency in Galicia, Spain, located in the forested hills and river valleys of Ribeira Sacra. The residency supports artists, filmmakers, writers, researchers, and independent creatives seeking focused time in a calm, comfortable, and inspiring environment.

Residents stay in sustainably built geodesic domes designed for year-round use, offering privacy, warmth in winter, coolness in summer, and views of either the Miño River valley or the surrounding oak forest. A shared studio loft provides desks, a large work table, lounge areas, and projection facilities, while outdoor spaces and the landscape itself invite site-responsive work.

Community life centers around a communal kitchen where residents cook individually or together, often sharing meals, conversations, and ideas. Optional mentorship with filmmaker Davoud Gerami is available for residents working in film, visual, sound, and regenerative arts, drawing on over 25 years of professional experience.

O Castro emphasises sustainability, low-impact living, and deep engagement with place. Residencies balance solitude and exchange, supporting meaningful research, experimentation, and creative production within a thoughtful rural context.

Additional Accessibility Information

O Castro Art Village is located in a forested, mountainous area of rural Galicia. The terrain is uneven and includes steep paths between parking areas, accommodation, and shared facilities. While one geodesic dome and the communal kitchen are designed to be accessible for guests with mobility needs, the path from the parking area to the domes is steep and may require assistance.

Please note that the shared studio loft is not wheelchair accessible due to the structure of the restored stone building. Artists with accessibility needs are therefore encouraged to plan to work primarily from their dome, which can function as a private workspace, while still participating in shared meals and community life in the kitchen.

We encourage applicants with accessibility concerns to contact us in advance so we can discuss individual needs and assess whether the residency is a suitable fit.

O Castro Art Village is a rural creative residency space made for those who seek their own bubble while having good company.

We offer self-paid or (at times) sponsored creative residencies in rural Galicia.

You stay in geodesic domes, and work in a studio with panoramic views of Ribeira Sacra.

We welcome creatives seeking time, space, and good company to work deeply.

Tucked in an oak forest you will find comfortable modern accommodation and share studio spaces, where you can stay and disconnect, or work on your next project.

You stay in a comfortable, well-insulated geodesic dome, tucked into an oak forest. In summer, it stays naturally cool. In winter, it’s warm, quiet, and deeply cozy. You fall asleep to owls calling in the distance. You wake up to birdsong and soft morning light through the trees.

A short walk from your dome, you’ll find the studio loft; a shared workspace perched above the landscape, with wide views over the Miño River valley and surrounding vineyards. This is where you work alongside other residents and coworkers, each focused on their own projects, yet close enough for ideas to cross paths.

The studio includes: super fast wifi, a screen and projector for presentations and films, individual workstations, studio table for collaborative work, lounge seating for reading, thinking, or stepping away from your screen. During the day, it’s a place for deep focus. In the evenings, it often shifts tone, becoming a cozy space for film screenings, makers’ events, skill-sharing workshops, or informal talks.

The kitchen is where work loosens its grip. It’s fully equipped with everything you need to cook comfortably; whether you’re preparing something on your own or teaming up with others. Meals are cooked individually or in small groups, depending on the day and the mood. When schedules align, we often share one meal a day. This is the social heart of O Castro: relaxed, homely, and always open.

At its core, the project is dedicated to:

  • rural cultural regeneration
  • artistic experimentation
  • meaningful creative work
  • and positive local impact

We believe culture doesn’t need grand buildings to matter, it needs time, care, and shared tables.

North Louisiana Arts Interchange

Ruston, LA, United States

The North Louisiana Arts Interchange is open to visual artists in the United States with preference given to artists based in Louisiana and surrounding states. Each year’s cohort is made up of a unique mix of artists who are lead through various exercises and conversations that lead them to a summer of collaboration, ultimately ending in an exhibit in Ruston, LA.

In its current form, Arts Interchange is described as a “baby residency,” allowing artists to step out of their regular practices and explore new experiences without significantly disrupting their daily lives. The program accommodates practicing artists, educators, students, and aspiring full-time artists, enabling them to fit the activities into their weekly schedules while maintaining their other commitments. For emerging and younger artists, Arts Interchange offers an opportunity to expand their practices and build valuable connections with fellow artists. For more seasoned participants, the program provides a refreshing break, allowing them to explore new ideas and collaborations that can reinvigorate their creative practices.

At its core, Arts Interchange brings together eight artists to talk, play, and collaborate, fostering a deeper understanding of one another and themselves. Through this experience, the program aims to leave participants with new friendships, innovative ideas, and a renewed relationship with their art.

Azule - Appalachian Artist Residence

Hot Springs, NC, United States

As an emerging community-based organization, Azule has developed a retreat and residency program for craftspeople, writers, architects, builders, researchers, and artists of all types. Azule’s mission is to provide an environment where artists and community meet, work, and learn together through the arts in their many forms. Located in Western North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, our facility is the result of decades of work by local craftspeople, using predominantly locally harvested or reused materials and constructed with traditional techniques.

Residents are each provided a room (shared or private) with a bed, work space, and beautiful views of our Appalachian setting. The remainder of the structure is communal and includes a full kitchen, dining area, library, and various side rooms and open spaces that serve as work space, gathering space, and studio space as needed.

We invite residents to join us to enjoy a retreat from everyday life where there is time and space to relax, dream, and create. We now accept and process applications on an ongoing basis throughout the year.

Creative Destiny Artist Residency was born on the land where the little red barn with a church window
casts a soft, steady light across the land and inner sanctum, illuminating the quiet places where
creativity begins. It is a place of reflection, healing, and creative spark. It is a sanctuary for artists seeking renewal and deeper purpose.

Here, the residency unfolds like a gentle invitation. Artists arrive carrying their questions, their hopes,
their unfinished work, and the parts of themselves that need tending. The land meets them with
stillness. The community meets them with warmth.

This residency is built on presence, not pressure or production. On listening inward. On
trusting the quiet voice that guides the creative path. Artists are encouraged to explore, rest,
experiment, and reconnect with the inner maker who knows the way forward.

We support artists through a restorative environment rooted in
reflection, nourishment, and creative exploration. Artists reconnect with their inner maker and step
confidently into the destiny that calls to them, illuminating pathways of purpose for creative expression.

Our hope is that every artist who comes here leaves with renewed clarity, deeper courage, and a sense of alignment with
their creative destiny.
