The Violet Institute invites applications from from emerging, mid-career and established critics residing in the United States for our inaugural criticism residency. We especially welcome critics with an interest in public scholarship and trans media.

There are four virtual residency programs: Ocean, Our Earth and Sustainability.

They focus on topics such as ocean conservation, sustainability and rooted communities, memory, territory, the earth, and climate.

Our Visual Arts Residency supports artists in experimenting with their craft and developing their focus or testing new ideas, while also engaging in vital public dialogue.

The Volland Residency program provides time and space for creative practitioners of a wide range of disciplines to gather in a community setting for work, thought and exchange of ideas. Volland offers three rarities in today’s world: quiet, darkness, solitude.

nWilderHaven Artist Residency (WHAR)

The current residency program at Willapa Bay AiR will end on October 31, 2026. 

The Edward F. Albee Foundation exists to serve writers and visual artists from all walks of life, by providing time and space in which to work without disturbance. 

Using only talent and need as the criteria for selection, the Foundation invites any and all artists to apply. 

Woodstock AIR, CPW's nationally recognized artist-in-residence program, was established in 1999. It is committed to providing direct support to artists who are working with photography and expanding the critical dialogue around diversity, race, and identity in the context of social justice.

The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts was established as a non-profit organization in 1999 by the Founder, Gloria Carr. For years it was her vision to create a studio for artists. She wasn’t sure where it would be set up until 1996 when she visited the island of Skopelos.
