The Emmanuel College Art Department offers a six-week artist residency to four artists each summer. The residency supports a diverse group of artists, providing uninterrupted time and space for established and emerging artists to develop their work.   

The Art Department specifically aims to award a residency to one individual from each of the four categories: ceramics, photography, printmaking and social practice. We strive to foster a supportive environment so artists have the opportunity to achieve their creative and artistic goals. The residency also plays an important role in advancing the visual arts on the Emmanuel campus, making contemporary art accessible to students, staff, and faculty.  

An Art Department studio manager will be available throughout the residency to assist artists with the logistics of the residency.  In return, artists contribute to the Emmanuel community through occasional interactions with Emmanuel faculty, staff, and students, and through the single work that each artist donates to Emmanuel College at the completion of their residency. Occasional opportunities for community building with the Emmanuel community may be organized by the Art Department.   

The Edward F. Albee Foundation exists to serve writers and visual artists from all walks of life, by providing time and space in which to work without disturbance. 

Using only talent and need as the criteria for selection, the Foundation invites any and all artists to apply. 

Founded in 1967 by Edward Albee, after proceeds from his play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? proved abundant, the Foundation has maintained the William Flanagan Memorial Creative Persons Center (better known as "The Barn") in Montauk, on Long Island in New York, as a residence for writers and visual artists. 

The Center is open almost year-round and can accommodate four creative persons at a time. Residencies are for calendar-month periods (with rare, pre-approved exceptions). The standards for admission are, simply, talent and need.

Located approximately two miles from the center of  Montauk and the Atlantic Ocean, "The Barn" rests in a secluded knoll  which offers privacy and a peaceful atmosphere. The Foundation expects all those accepted for residence to work seriously and to conduct themselves in such a manner as to aid fellow residents in their endeavors.  The environment is simple and communal. 

Writers and visual artists are offered individual en-suite bedrooms and separate working studios. Domestic residents are awarded a $2500 stipend upon completion of their stay; foreign nationals are provided with reimbursement of qualified expenses up to $2500USD. 

Elf School of the Arts is a nonprofit artist residency in Hayesville, NC. Situated beside the Appalachian Mountains and Lake Chatuge. Elf was originally an elementary school started in 1928 but has been renovated from 2022-2024 into an artist residency and concert venue. Elf's primary mediums are book arts, casting, cooking, drawing, jewelry, music, lapidary, paper arts, photography, printmaking, weaving, welding, woodworking, and writing. 

Arts MSU, in partnership with University Health and Wellbeing, is excited to announce the inaugural call for an Artist-in-Residence at Olin Health Center. This initiative promotes a sense of belonging, wellness, and inclusivity among the MSU community through art. We are seeking an artist with experience in
community-engaged mural projects to work in a university health setting. The project will culminate in a new mural installation within the Olin Health Center building on the Michigan State University Campus. The selected artist will work closely with a diverse array of students and staff from the counseling and
psychiatric services at Olin Health Center over the course of the 8-month residency. The goal is to collaboratively design and execute a mural within the student health clinic. 

The Artist-in-Residence project embeds arts in the clinical setting through a new collaboration dedicated to integrating the arts into student wellbeing. By including arts practice into the clinical setting, we aim to improve student health outcomes, specifically within therapeutic groups, and to upgrade the
infrastructure of the clinical building by creating a large mural that speaks to students’ experiences and makes the setting more welcoming and trauma-informed. By incorporating arts practice within therapeutic groups free to students, we reduce barriers to participation.

Boise City Department of Arts & History invites  emerging and mid-career artists in any creative field to apply for a two-week or a two-month residency at the James Castle House in Boise, Idaho. 

This residency invites artists to immerse themselves in the historic site where James Castle lived and worked for the last 46 years of his life. Artists are asked to explore the house, its history, and the surrounding landscape, and respond to their experience through the creation of new works. Residents will share their creative practice and process with our community through one public event during their stay.

Each residency cycle provides one participant with private furnished living quarters, 24-hour studio access, and a $1,000 stipend for a two-week residency or a $4,000 stipend for a two-month residency to assist with living expenses and supplies necessary to create work. The resident is responsible for travel and shipping expenses.

Through this program, the James Castle House keeps the legacy of daily creativity and experimentation alive on-site, cultivating a growing local and national community and providing a deeper understanding of James Castle and the place he called home. 

*Please note that this is a solo residency. The selected participant will have regular contact with staff at the James Castle House and members of the Boise community, but they will reside alone. 

 

Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill offers 3 month Ceramic Artist in Residence Programs during the winter, which are designed to provide time and facilities to artists looking for a concentrated creative experience. Our goal is to give driven and self-directed artists the opportunity to enhance their personal, intellectual and creative growth by expanding their body of work or creating a specific project. Free from the distractions of every day pressures, residents will be given time and space to concentrate on their work in the beautiful setting of Cape Cod and will be awarded a shared exhibition in the Castle Hill gallery upon completion of their stay.

The residencies run from January to March  and include housing and studio space for $500/month. Residents will be selected based on a review of application materials. Each resident will have personal workspace in a shared studio and open access to the communal ceramics studio and kilns. Materials and firing fees are payable through Castle Hill at a discounted rate. Residents will have a furnished apartment equipped with a kitchen, bathroom, living room, laundry and internet access. It is highly recommended to have a car, as there is limited public transportation and no grocery store within walking distance.

Kaatsbaan residencies are in service of Kaatsbaan's mission to provide opportunities for artists of all genres to create, live, and collaborate in the idyllic countryside of the Hudson Valley. Providing a productive and creative working environment, Kaatsbaan residencies are individually designed between the artists, Kaatsbaan, and partners to fit the needs of the artists or company. Kaatsbaan is a year-round operation. All facilities are heated and air-conditioned.
