The Sable Project Summer Residencies

The Sable Project Summer Residencies

The Sable Project started with a forested piece of land near a mountain called Sable and an idea to bring creative people together in order to grow food and make art.

We built an Artist Residency Program for artists across disciplines that is off-grid, environmentally engaged, grounded by physical work, and collaborative. It is designed to foster creativity by removing some of the obstacles that keep artists from creating- space, time, and supplies- while providing new influences in an inspiring environment. Each season is unique and each residency experience evolves through the input of everyone present.

Our Summer Artist Residency is for adult artists of all ages and disciplines seeking space, time, and a place to focus on their art. We are specifically looking for artists confident in their creative processes, comfortable living in community, and willing to camp out for the duration of their stay.

Sable is off-the-grid! We live in the woods in Vermont’s Green Mountains. There is no electricity or wifi. We invite Artists to depart from their often hyper-connected routines in order to engage deeply with their surroundings and cultivate a community of care with one another.

Our Summer Residencies take place in June, July and September. More details on Sable Residencies.

Additional Accessibility Information

Our location - up a hill (small mountain), on a dirt road, with uneven ground, and partly forested - is inherently a difficult location to provide the best accessibility to all individuals. That said, we are currently looking for ways to improve in this regard and are happy to help accommodate anyone in any way we can. Please read our Accessibility page to get a sense for what Sable has to offer.

You can find more details about our various Sable Structures here.

Please be in direct communication with The Sable Team to let us know your accessibility needs!

We-Che Art Residency

Trevelin, Chubut, Argentina

We-Che Art Residency is an artist run project, founded by the artistic duo Raom&Loba. In line with our own vision and experience, we humbly wish to offer others what we have received from our peers at different points in our artistic careers: an inspiring place, a warm and quiet workspace, conducive to constructive exchanges with artists from every parts of the world… as a small, human-scale adventure.

We-Che is located on 2ha slice of landscape, crossed by a river, planted of pine and native trees on the 259 Road. close to the historic village of Trevelin founded by Welsh immigrants and 15km from Futaleufú and the Chilean border. A natural nest, backing onto a protected natural area of over 40 ha the Nant y Fall river and its waterfalls. In the heart of the 16th of October Valley, its vineyards, its famous and vast 5million tulip field, facing the majestic pre-Andean mountains in the background at just a few kilometers from the southern entrance of Los Alerces National Park.

We-Che, meansYoung in mapuche, and we encourage artists to connect to Patagonia as a natural historical and cultural environnement. Our proposal is to spend time and space away to retreat, create and rejuvenate, gathering new inspiration, and also participate to a more respectful relationship between Art and Nature.

We welcome all creators and writers if their project fits to We-Che, evaluating if our structure can give all the necessary space and is able to promote the better experience for each one

Our studio is new, and we are constantly expanding our equipment with new tools and technical materials. To optimize space, and depending on the artists' projects, we set up different configurations, as well as various tools and equipment: lighted drawing tables, architect's drawing tables, paper storage units, tripods and stereoscopic cameras (vintage, analog, and digital), a flatbed scanner, a basic office black and white laser printer, easels, and benches, a video projector, a 3D scanner and 3D printer, a lightweight laser engraver (50x70 cm), an embroidery overlocker (Cornely A3), a basic vintage Elna sewing machine, a tuffting gun, and basic tools for woodworking and metalworking.

An Eclectic Evolutiv library where visiting Artists can find documentation, and inspiration, and are invited to deposit their book and catalogs to share with future residents.

In the main studio, there is a basic supply emergency fund and artists are encouraged when leaving We-Che to deposit here supplies and remains of their projects, to contribute to enrich the emergency supply and material fund

We are also gradually creating new workspaces that will complement our existing studios with an etching press coming soon for non toxic etching practice.

Art For Kep - Artist Residency

Kep, Cambodia

The Art for Kep Artist Residency Program is a collaborative platform supporting artistic innovation, cultural exchange, and community engagement in Cambodia’s coastal Kep region. Backed by Knai Bang Chatt, Kep West, and expert partners—Satcha, Cambodia International Film Festival (CIFF), Kep Music City, and Marine Conservation Cambodia (MCC)—the program welcomes local and international artists across disciplines through monthly intakes, selecting up to three residents per cycle.

Artists benefit from immersive studios, accommodation, and tailored support, while being encouraged to engage with the community through exhibitions, workshops, and cultural initiatives. Sustainability, cultural immersion, and long-term creative contributions are central pillars of the residency.
A clear application process, strong administrative structure, and collaborative environment ensure a fulfilling artist experience. The program is first and foremost a transformative opportunity for the participating artists—offering them space, visibility, and support—while also enhancing Kep’s role as a hub for artistic excellence and engaging partners and the broader community.

Ohio River House

Location

PO Box 4
Higginsport, OH 45131
United States

Our organization is based at a historic riverfront property in southern Ohio, near the Appalachian border region, where we are developing an interdisciplinary artist-in-residence program for visual artists, writers, and musicians. The site includes a restored early-19th-century home and former warehouse adapted into living and working spaces, offering artists a setting that supports focused creative work alongside informal exchange and connection.

The residency is intentionally small, place-based, and process-oriented. We are especially interested in supporting artists whose practices benefit from time, space, and reflection, without pressure for specific outcomes. While public engagement is not required, we encourage optional activities such as open studios, conversations, or workshops when they arise naturally from the artist’s work and are meaningful to the surrounding community.

Group Residency Programme Italy - Place, People and Time: ART and FOOD

Filignano, IS, Italy

Fri 9th – Fri 16th Oct 2026

The Group Residency is devised around the relationships of ‘place, people and time’ and residents will be welcomed to Collemacchia, in Italy’s Apennine Mountains and the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise.

ART and FOOD has been devised by Tracy Mackenna (she/her), artist, educator and curator of The Museum of Loss and Renewal in partnership with artist Carla Smith (she/her). Tracy’s family is from Collemacchia, where the Group Residency is centred, while Carla’s family comes from nearby Santa Maria Oliveto.

ART and FOOD will be led by Tracy and Carla who share a passion for bringing people together over food, to explore what it means to be creative, to gather, collect and share ingredients, materials and matter, and ways of making. Between us we activate a range of skills and expertise when we curate situations and groups of people. Additional subject-specific sessions will be delivered by a range of experts.

We are driven by our Italian heritages to explore the relationships between art and culture and food. Current considerations include how the production of food is changing due to shifting labour patterns, new co-operative production methods, the importance of capturing and passing on local knowledge of land care, growing methods, cultivation, foraging, harvesting, sustainability and meal preparation. The impact of (return)migration is a key focus.

Group Residency Programme Italy Place, People and Time: WRITING with PLACE

Filignano, IS, Italy

Thurs 1st – Thurs 8th Oct 2026

APPLY BY 01 May 2026

This Group Residency has been devised by Tracy Mackenna (she/her), artist, educator and curator of The Museum of Loss and Renewal in partnership with writer Elizabeth K Reeder and writer and artist Amanda Thomson.

WRITING with PLACE will be led by Tracy, Elizabeth and Amanda who share a passion for writing, and the design, production, publishing and dissemination of printed matter and digital publications. Between us we activate diverse skills and expertise when we employ text, language, writing, publishing and performative modes of working to investigate place(making), (un)belonging, loss, renewal, memory, (personal)narratives and imaginary futures.

The aim of the Group Residency is to develop ‘writing’ and approaches to ‘writing’ that are experimental, inventive in their form, and that respond to place, in a specific environment. Bringing together residents from a range of areas of practice and research, the potential to create an international network is made possible.

‘Writing’ is understood as creative and critical, and situated writing as an area of practice in its most expanded sense. In other words, writing that is experimental, inventive in its form, and responds to place.

Water & Rock Nature

Thassos, Greece

The Water & Rock artist residency invites creatives and writers in the traditional and picturesque village of Kazaviti on the island of Thassos. The village is nestled in the mountains, surrounded by forest and natural springs, bursting with history.

Nature is at the center of everything we do at Water & Rock, we want to bring awareness to the beauty and importance of the fauna and flora of the island in an aim to build a greater sense of interdependence, for now and for future generations, human and non-human.

We invite you to spend some time here and soak up the beauty and energy the landscape has to offer. There is no doubt that the scenery, wildlife and history will inspire you to create something beautiful. The island will be generous to you, and your gift back to her will be your creativity which in turn will inspire others to look at nature differently and cherish the richness, beauty and life that it brings.

Each residency will be themed in line with the cycles of nature of that month.

We will be offering many creative outdoor activities including hikes, nature guided walks, outdoor art days, social gatherings, teachings and more.

Your host Leah Heming is a passionate nature guide, artist and people lover. She has over 10 years’ experience in the commercial art gallery business, 20 years in the publishing and animation business, and 5 years of living a simpler life on the island of Thassos. Leah can't wait to get creative with you and show you around the island!

Group Residency Programme, Orkney - Air, Sea and Soil: SOUNDINGS and SURROUNDINGS

Birsay, United Kingdom

Sat 27 June – Sat 04 July 2026

SOUNDINGS and SURROUNDINGS has been devised around the relationships of ‘Air, Sea and Soil’, encompassing the Orkney Islands’ remarkable natural environment. Residents will be welcomed to the Birsay area of Orkney, where the bespoke programme will take place in 5-star self-catering accommodation (single rooms) and studio facilities, and through visits to Neolithic Orkney’s World Heritage Sites.

The Group Residency will be led by Tracy Mackenna (she/her), artist, educator and curator of The Museum of Loss and Renewal and facilitated by Tracy and programme contributors. Subject-specific contributions will be delivered by a range of multidisciplinary Orkney-based experts who have in common site-specific, participatory and socially engaged practices revolving around sound and environment. Their diverse skills, expertise and modes of working are activated to investigate lost futures, intersectional histories, ecological and personal landscapes, experimental identities, ruin memory, trauma mapping, site recording, material and immaterial realms, deep time, marginalised communities and hidden lives.

The Group Residency is offered for creative practitioners working in all creative disciplines and for those who have a strong interest in the investigation of the Group Residency themes in relation to space, sound and visuals. The group will comprise of approx. eight international participants.
