AiR/Newport

AiR/Newport

Newport, RI, United States

The Newport artist residency, AiR/Newport is designed to encourage the creative, intellectual and personal growth of emerging to established visual artists and designers by giving them the time, space and solitude needed to create, apart from the daily demands of production and deadlines. Our hope is that some aspect of Newport County’s architecture, flora, history, or ocean front geography will result in resident artists further developing their current practice or the creation of new work. And in turn, we anticipate learning from those creatives who join us. In addition to having access to the Newport Art Museum’s collection and archives, we will introduce resident artists/designers to the leaders and rich holdings of other cultural and history museums in Newport, as well as Rhode Island’s universities and art schools. From its founding in 1912, the Newport Art Museum has valued art and artists as essential components of a vibrant, healthy and informed community and therefore we consider a community engagement activity, to be determined by the resident artists, a priority. We are committed to cultivating a culture of inclusion and believe the collective sum of our individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, identities, and histories help ensure that our Museum is, and will continue to be, a welcoming place for all.

ACA MEMBER EVENT | NEA Grants for Arts Projects Information Session

ACA Staff
December 21, 2022

Interested in applying for the Grants for Arts Projects program through the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)?

Join Artist Communities Alliance (ACA) in partnership with the NEA on Thursday, February 2 at 2pm ET for an informational session specifically for residencies considering applying.

Grants for Arts Projects is the National Endowment for the Arts’ principal grants program for organizations based in the United States. Through this program, the NEA funds arts projects in various disciplines, including Artist Communities. Applicants may request cost share/matching grants ranging from $10,000 to $100,000. Eligible organizations that received American Rescue Plan (ARP) or CARES Act funding may apply to this program as long as there are no overlapping costs during the same grant period.

NEA staff Brandon Gryde, Director of Presenting and Multidisciplinary Works + Artist Communities and Jennie Terman, Specialist for Artist Communities and Presenting & Multidisciplinary Works, will share updates on grant guidelines, the application process, and how residencies can approach this funding stream. A brief presentation will be followed by open Q + A.

This session is available exclusively to ACA members. Any and all staff, leadership, and boards of ACA member programs are encouraged to attend.

ACCESSIBILITY: This session will be live-captioned and ASL interpreted. ACA is committed to providing full access to all. Please register with your accessibility inquiries and requests by January 26th at 12pm ET. ACA staff will reach out to you to confirm your accommodations.

Pedantic Arts Residency

Pittsburgh, PA, United States

Pedantic Arts Residency brings together an artist, a curator, and a writer under one roof for a collaborative arts experience. It is a unique invitation to open greater and more cross-disciplinary dialogue within the arts by re-embracing the significant impact that education, study, and structured contemplation can have on artistic output. It is focused on fostering artistic connections rather than production.

Running for a period of 4 weeks, participants will be immersed in the creative communities of Pittsburgh. Pedantic is located in one of the city’s largest and most bustling art hubs. The assets of this creative network will be offered as a meaningful point of influence for residents, while providing them with ample opportunities to advance their practices and share their talents and perspectives.

Pedantic will entail weekly programming including but not limited to lectures, dinners, studio visits, and museum tours. Many of these will be open to members of the larger public or specific invited guests, while others will be reserved as special opportunities just for the cohort. Residents will also have the unique opportunity to partner and collaborate with local organizations and professionals. Each resident will be assigned to a Pittsburgh-based guide working in a similar field who will help connect them to activities, resources, and contacts.

The residency can result in a myriad of outcomes, whether immediate or over time through the continued percolation of ideas.

Third Open Call for 2025 Production Residency

Associated Residency Program

´ace is an acronym that stands for "arte contemporáneo en expansión", which is Spanish for "expanding contemporary art". Its main mission is to promote contemporary artistic practices and the exploration of their multiple interfaces through residency programs, which are aimed at artists, curators and researchers, and promote collaborative work, exchange, debate and experimentation.

Production Residencies (spanning for 4 weeks) support emerging and professional artists in the creation of new bodies of works, or the development of works in progress (including visual practices, performance art, sound art, and curating). Our residents work on all kinds of individual or collaborative projects proposed by themselves, producing with the support of the ´ace team and associated professionals who support the creative process through collective meetings and permanent feedback. Production Residencies may include a closing exhibition, a site-specific installation or an open studio format presentation to the local public.

We hold 4 open calls every year for all of our programs, the deadlines are: January 31st, April 30th, July 31st and October 31st.
