2026 Longfellow Emerging Artist Fellowship

Associated Residency Program

The Longfellow Emerging Artist Fellowship (LEAF) is a bold new initiative from One Longfellow Square, created to support early-career, Maine-based musicians in building sustainable, fulfilling lives as working artists. Rooted in equity and shaped by conversations with artists and cultural leaders across Maine, LEAF is designed to meet real needs—offering not just opportunity, but meaningful support. By investing in local talent and providing a platform for growth, LEAF aims to strengthen Maine’s creative ecosystem and help launch the next generation of voices onto the national stage.

Description and Qualifications

The Center for the Humanities at Tufts University, in partnership with the Mellon Foundation-funded project University Ecologies and the Question of the Commons, invites applications for a visiting artist, who will spend a 3-month period at Tufts in spring 2026.

A description of the University Ecologies project is available here: https://humanities.tufts.edu/university-ecologies-and-question-commons

The 2025/26 academic year will engage closely with placemaking, public space, lawn monocultures, and the entanglements of cultural diversity and biodiversity.

The visiting artist will be expected to participate in cross-disciplinary discussions and attend in-person events to reimagine campus environments, challenge hierarchies of knowledge production, diversify monocultural ecologies such as lawns, and deconstruct the histories of land possession and animal production that higher education institutions have supported. The artist will be in consistent dialogue with a postdoctoral fellow, doctoral candidates, community organizers, invited speakers including artists, scholars, and activists, as well as Tufts faculty, staff, workers, and students.

In addition, the visiting artist will set aside dedicated time for the conceptualization, presentation, and possible realization of performative interventions, artist talks, and/or artistic projects inspired by the overall project's theme. They will have access to shared space and, after receiving required certifications, they will be able to use facilities at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts.

Qualification is negotiable and depends on field of expertise.

2025 Fall / extended Fall Artist Residency

Associated Residency Program

Byrdcliffe’s Artists-in-Residence (AiR) program offers artists in all disciplines uninterrupted time to live and work within the serene natural setting and creative community of Woodstock’s historic Byrdcliffe Arts Colony, one of the earliest utopian and continuously operating arts colonies in America.

Artist residency options include month-long communal sessions and 5-month long independent cottage residencies during the summer months, as well as independent residencies in our year-round cottages which range from 3-months to a year. As part of the AiR program, artists are invited to participate in gatherings, talks, practice shares, studio visits, excursions, open studio events, and the annual AiR exhibition the spring after their residency.

The main criterion for acceptance to Byrdcliffe’s AiR program is artistic excellence and demonstrated commitment to one’s field of endeavor. Artists working in a range of disciplines are encouraged to apply including writing, visual arts, weaving, ceramics, music, composition, photography, filmmaking, dance, and multi-disciplinary practices.  A selection of artistic merit and financial need fellowships are available each year, covering partial to full residency fees.

Grantmaking Grows the Field, One Artist, One Residency at a Time

ACA Communications
August 1, 2025

Artist residencies can be life-changing for artists and the organizations that host them. At Artist Communities Alliance (ACA), we know that meaningful placements don’t happen by chance — they’re built through trust, shared values, and sustained support.

That’s why ACA’s grantmaking is different.

Through our work with initiatives like the McKnight Fellowship Residency and MacColl Johnson Fellowship Fund, we fund placements that build intentional relationships between artists and host organizations, rooted in mutual respect, care, and accountability.

For artists, this might mean a first-time residency experience at places like Art Omi, Montalvo Arts Center, or Millay Arts. These residencies are so much more than just a studio, they offer time to reflect, connect, and grow. We’ve supported artists in accessing meaningful, paid opportunities that recognize their and honor their experience, not just their output.

For residency organizations, it’s a chance to host artists they may not have previously reached — artists from underrepresented geographies, disciplines, or cultural communities — and to deepen their own practices of equity and access. We’ve seen residencies revise their application processes, shift curatorial frameworks, and build ongoing collaborations with past grantees.

The real impact goes beyond any single residency.

We’ve witnessed artists become deeply involved in their residency's community, develop work made during their time there, and launch new community projects shaped by the support they received. We’ve seen residencies grow their networks, rethink their values, and make long-term commitments to inclusive practices — all beginning with a single placement.

Thanks to your support, ACA has funded artists, supported residencies, and expanded a model of grantmaking that's collaborative, reparative, and built to last. You help us strengthen the entire ecosystem — creating a more resilient, inclusive, and artist-centered future, one relationship at a time.

But the work isn’t done.

If you believe in a residency field where artists of all backgrounds can thrive, we invite you to be part of this movement. Your donation helps ACA continue to offer vital support, develop new tools, and grow a field-wide culture of equity and care. Make a gift today to sustain this field-changing work.

Together, we’re not just responding to the moment. We’re building the future.

Interwoven: Art and Ecology of the Island

Toronto, ON, Canada

Program Dates: February 9-17, 2026

Interwoven invites artists working with natural materials and processes to come together in an immersive setting, engaging with the landscape and stories of the island. The residency will focus on sustainable craft traditions such as spoon carving, loom weaving, willow and dogwood basketry, natural pigment making, painting, fabric dyeing, broom making, and natural sculpture.

This residency will bring together up to 18 artists to explore how craft, ecology, and place intersect. Participants will work with natural materials sourced ethically from the landscape, engage in skill-sharing, and create works that reflect the rhythms, resilience, and interconnectivity of the island’s ecosystems.

2026 Theodore B. Olson Memorial Fellowship and Residency

Write On, Door County is pleased to offer the Theodore B. Olson Memorial Fellowship to a writer whose work focuses on how equal protection under the law is an inherent, sacred right belonging to all of our citizens and must therefore be robustly protected and applied. For if any right or any protection is denied to any one of us, then it is at risk of being denied to any one or all of us.

Applications for the Theodore B. Olson Memorial Fellowship are accepted from writers--emerging to established--working in any genre, including journalism. The fellowship includes a two-week residence at Write On in late August/early September each year. For 2026, the dates are Sunday, August 30 through Sunday, September 13. The fellowship will provide a stipend of $700 along with funds to assist with travel and a grocery allowance.

The selected writer will participate in a public event to be arranged in consultation with Write On's Artistic Director during the time of the residency.
