Session 5 | August 10–22

Designing within the parameters of monochromatic color schemes offers us the chance to work with unblemished purity, an ability to highlight an object’s sense of neutrality, and to focus more on shape and form without the visual distractions often created by patterns on the surface of things. This workshop will allow participants an opportunity to focus on making unconventional and conventional shapes, their surface contours, silhouettes, and postures, and emphasize the 3D footprint an object holds in a space. A minimum of two years of glassblowing experience is required.

Robert Lewis (he/him) is an international artist/maker/educator presently living in Calgary, Canada. He was an Associate Professor at the Toyama City Institute of Glass Art in Japan from 2005-2009. Since returning to North America, Lewis has been a faculty member at Ohio State University, the Alberta University of the Arts, and has most recently taught courses about the fundamentals of 3D design and sculpture at the University of Calgary. He has been teaching internationally for twenty-one years.

Dave Walters (he/him) has taught, traveled, and exhibited all over the globe. He worked for Lino Tagliepietra for more than thirty years as well as assisting many of the world's top glass artists. Walters’ art practice combines intricately blown glass forms with highly detailed enamel work, utilizing fairy tales as a vehicle to discuss contemporary social and political issues.

Session 4 | July 27–August 8

Through careful observation, respect, and consideration, we will move beyond simply manipulating glass into an exploration of its conceptual value. Various collaborative and experimental demonstrations will delve into how glass relates to optics, sound, and site-specific location to broaden the participant’s understanding of the material’s possibilities. Encouraging investigations into the innate properties of glass will help expand our thinking of its potential. We will explore the environment of Haystack and discern how an artist utilizes creativity to reveal their interpretation of this world. A minimum of one year of glassblowing experience is required.

Bohyun Yoon’s (he/him) work exists at the intersection of craft, music, performance, video, and experimental participatory theatre. A core concern for Yoon is to unravel the nature of communication. He takes on the defined societal categories of race, gender, class, and age, and reshapes our preconceived notions of the self and other through light, reflection, sound, the body, and technology. Yoon is an Associate Professor of Art at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is the recipient of many international awards, fellowships, and residencies.

Session 3 | July 13–25

Intaglio carving is the process of cutting into the surface of a stone to create an image. This ancient art is a testament to craft and requires a steady hand and a keen eye. In this workshop, participants will hone their skills as they explore the basics of intaglio carving. Starting with glass cabochons, participants will experiment with simple mark-making as they learn to create their own images. The workshop will conclude with setting techniques to turn your gemstone into jewelry. Previous metalsmithing experience required. Workshop includes considerable precision work expected, and participants should be comfortable sawing, soldering, and using a flex shaft.

Since 2013, Erica Bello (she/they) has created multi-dimensional designs that bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary jewelry. With an interest in the reinterpretation of classic iconography, she looks to historical objects, folk art, and ubiquitous keepsakes for inspiration. Her designs rise out of recurring motifs and settle to form objects that evoke feelings of nostalgia. Classically trained, Bello explores traditional metalsmithing techniques alongside modern jewelry design. The result is in her own immediately recognizable work that falls somewhere between classic and contemporary.

Applications Open Through April 30 for Groundbreaking Projects at the Intersection of Art and Technology

The ACC, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, is pleased to announce the international open call for the ACC CREATORS 2025 Residency — a prestigious interdisciplinary program supporting visionary projects that merge art, science, and technology. Applications are now being accepted through April 30, 2025.

Marking its 10th anniversary, the ACC CREATORS Residency has become one of Asia’s leading platforms for experimental cultural production. Open to artists, researchers, technologists, and creators worldwide, the program provides a collaborative environment for developing ambitious works that engage with urgent questions of our time.

The 2025 residency theme, “The Intelligence Age,” invites participants to explore the societal, artistic, and technological implications of artificial intelligence and the rapidly evolving data landscape. Selected creators will investigate new forms of intelligence and envision how humans may coexist with emergent entities in hybrid digital-physical environments.

Residency Categories and Support

The 2025 residency will support eight individual or team-based projects across five categories:

  • Art & Technology (4 teams)
  • Kinetic Media (1 team)
  • Audiovisual (1 team)
  • Mixed Reality (1 team)
  • Immersive Sound (1 team)

Each project will receive between KRW 20,000,000 and 30,000,000 in production funding, along with access to dedicated studio space, technical facilities, and expert consultation.

Advanced Infrastructure

Participants will work within ACC’s ACT(Arts & Creative Technology) Studio, including:

  • Complex Studio equipped for kinetic media projects
  • A media production studio with four-sided rear screens, a full motion capture system, and a 64-channel immersive sound environment

These facilities support experimentation across spatial, sonic, and digital media.

Project Showcase

Completed projects will be presented to the public in a culminating exhibition running for two weeks beginning November 25, 2025, coinciding with the ACC’s 10th anniversary. The showcase will feature installations, performances, presentations, and workshops, offering the public an opportunity to engage with the latest developments in art and technology.

How to Apply

Interested applicants can submit proposals via the official ACC website at www.acc.go.kr. After creating a user account, applicants must complete the online form and upload all required materials by the deadline.

Selection Process

Submissions will be evaluated in a two-stage review process, including a document screening and interview. Final selections will be announced in June 2025, and the residency will run from August through November.

For full application guidelines, eligibility requirements, and program details, please visit www.acc.go.kr.

Dora Maar House Open Call for 2026 Residencies

Associated Residency Program

In 1997, Nancy B. Negley purchased the former residence of Dora Maar. In a five-year effort, she rehabilitated and updated this spacious eighteenth-century, four-story stone residence in the village of Ménerbes. Her goal was to make it a retreat for scholars, artists, and writers, where they could work undisturbed on their research, art, or writing, for one to two months.

Here outstanding mid-career professionals are offered fellowships that enable them to reside in the Dora Maar House and focus on the creative aspects of their work.

A travel award is based on the average fare of travel from the resident's hometown to Paris.

A $1500 stipend is awarded.

ADDITIONAL ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION

We are sorry to say the house is not completely adapted to persons with limited mobility access. It is on top of a hill in a medieval village. Getting to the house or to any of the stores in the village would be difficult. The rooms and studios are up two flights of stairs, though there is an elevator. The elevator cannot accommodate most wheelchairs. It is a very old house (15th century) and the floors are not even, there are small steps up and down between rooms.

A person with mobility issues can discuss with the staff their specific needs and level of mobility to see if it would be possible. Persons with some but limited mobility have been able to enjoy a month-long residency with some restrictions. Caregiver or companion is allowed in this context, but they must be a partner and willing to share the same bedroom with the fellow.
