Full Fellowship Award - Mudhouse Artist Residency 2026

Associated Residency Program

The Mudhouse Residency is an artist residency program designed to provide a cultural immersion; with the local community of a unique Cretan mountain village, with the rich historical context of the ancient Minoan civilization, and with the isolation and inspiration the natural environment and location provides.

Contemporary artists have the opportunity to enrich their professional practice with largely forgotten labors of traditional artisans and craftspeople of Crete, combining historical methods and mediums with present day techniques and materials. Inspiration is provided by the uncommon context of the residency; in an almost abandoned mountain village the ruins play an important role in the artistic expression of the artists-in-residence. In return, the residency brings life to the village, supporting the local community and allowing for communication and collaboration.

The residency is inclusive to a variety of artistic disciplines, with the facilities to accommodate studio artists, printmakers, fiber artists, ceramicists, photographers, filmmakers, writers, choreographers and composers. We will be offering residency specific workshops in eco-friendly processes and traditional materials such as sourcing botanical inks, papermaking, creating artists’ books, printmaking, ceramics, loom weaving and traditional Cretan dances. The residency also provides artists who don’t require the use of a studio with the time and structure to focus on a non-studio based project.

The residency fee includes accommodations for each resident with a private bedroom and shared kitchen, two group meals each day, arranged meetings with visiting curators and professionals, equipment and staff support, and session specific workshops and excursions to places of interest on Crete.

In this time of inflation, the actual cost of our residencies has risen exponentially. Through the generosity of individual donors and foundation partners, Mudhouse Residency is able to significantly reduce the fee of each residency.

Artists who are able to pay the full residency fee may select to pay $4400 in their application. Artists who require a partial fellowship to attend may select to be considered for a partial fellowship, for a residency fee of $3600. Artists who need financial aid in addition to the partial fellowship may select to be considered for the $2800 residency fee, and will be asked to perform a job during their residency session. Residency jobs include studio maintenance, exhibition crew and tech assistance. 1/3 of the residencies each year are partially funded and 1/3 of the residencies each year are partially funded with an additional stipend.

GENERAL APPLICATION:

Most applicants apply through the general application, which is typically for residencies 6–9 months out from the award date. In the regular application, candidates can opt to be considered for financial aid or one of the fully funded fellowships. Because the regular application includes financial aid, it is the most competitive option. Artists requesting financial aid typically pay between $0 – $450/week depending on their needs.

La aplicación general también está disponible en español.

Deadlines for General Applications are May 1 and November 1 each year. The application will open two months prior to the deadline. (See table below for details.)

Due to the volume of submissions close to the deadline, please consider submitting your application early to take into account any technical difficulties that may happen. We do not extend the deadline for late submissions.

Pedantic Open Call: Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 Terms

Associated Residency Program

Pedantic Arts Residency brings together an artist, a curator, and a writer under one roof for a collaborative arts experience. It is a unique invitation to open greater and more cross-disciplinary dialogue within the arts by re-embracing the significant impact that education, study, and structured contemplation can have on artistic output. It is focused on fostering artistic connections rather than production.

Running for a period of 4 weeks, participants will be immersed in the creative communities of Pittsburgh. Pedantic is located in one of the city’s largest and most bustling art hubs. The assets of this creative network will be offered as a meaningful point of influence for residents, while providing them with ample opportunities to advance their practices and share their talents and perspectives.

Pedantic will entail weekly programming including but not limited to lectures, dinners, studio visits, and museum tours. Many of these will be open to members of the larger public or specific invited guests, while others will be reserved as special opportunities just for the cohort. Residents will also have the unique opportunity to partner and collaborate with local organizations and professionals. Each resident will be assigned to a Pittsburgh-based guide working in a similar field who will help connect them to activities, resources, and contacts.

The residency can result in a myriad of outcomes, whether immediate or over time through the continued percolation of ideas.

Why a Mission Question? Because We’re Still Becoming

ACA Communications
August 22, 2025

At Artist Communities Alliance (ACA), we don’t have a mission statement. We have a mission question: How can ACA unite the people who power artist residencies and inspire the field?

We chose a mission question because we recognize that our work, like the work of artists and residencies, is never finished. A mission statement can close a door. A question keeps it open. It allows for evolution, adaptation, and continued inquiry. It acknowledges that to truly serve the field, we must remain in motion.

Artist residencies exist in a world that is constantly shifting. From changing political and funding landscapes, to movements for racial and disability justice, to new models of cultural organizing — residencies are called to meet the moment with care, creativity, and courage. Our role at ACA is to listen and respond. To support the people and organizations that hold space for artists, we must remain porous and attentive. The question at the heart of our mission keeps us oriented toward discovery, rather than prescription.

We believe that experimentation yields transformation. This belief is embedded not just in what we support, but how we work. A mission question keeps us accountable to the field as it exists now, and to the future we want to help shape. It reminds us to lead with humility, curiosity, and an openness to change.

Our work is like mycelium: networked, responsive, generative. A living system that depends on connection and mutual nourishment. The question we carry is an invitation — not only for ourselves, but for everyone in our network — to ask alongside us: What’s possible now? What does the field need next? How do we grow stronger, together?

We remain committed to asking, and asking again.

Thanks to your support, ACA is shaping a network rooted in inquiry and collective strength. Our mission questions commits us to adaptability, deep listening, and shared leadership. Together, we’re building a future for the residency field that stays open — responsive to artists, communities, and the world we move through.

But the work isn’t done.

If you believe in a residency field where artists of all backgrounds can thrive, we invite you to be part of this movement. Your donation helps ACA continue to offer vital support, develop new tools, and grow a field-wide culture of equity and care. Make a gift today to sustain this field-changing work.

Together, we’re not just responding to the moment. We’re building the future.

A Stronger Network, Built on Shared Values

ACA Communications
August 15, 2025

Artist residencies have always been more than just places to make work. They are communities: spaces where artists and organizations grow together through shared risk, care, and transformation. At Artist Communities Alliance (ACA), we know these relationships don’t thrive by accident. They’re built through trust, reflection, and alignment around shared values.

This year, as we celebrate our 35th anniversary, we’ve made a major shift: we’re eliminating membership dues for all residencies in our network. Because we believe access to connection, knowledge, and collective power should never be pay-to-play.

Removing dues does more than eliminate a financial barrier. It affirms ACA’s long-standing belief that power lies in people, not in budgets, and that access to opportunity, resources, and information must be shared equitably across the field. It opens space for under-resourced residencies to reinvest in their own success, for emerging programs to enter national conversations, and for all of us to imagine a future where equity is not just a value, but a practice.

This decision is rooted in the same ethos that drives everything we do — from grantmaking and research to field-building and convening. We center artists in all that we do, guided by the belief that transformation comes through experimentation, and that lasting change emerges from a spirit of reciprocity, curiosity, and care.

The impact goes far beyond cost savings. It looks like a rural residency able to keep its doors open and its staff paid. A new program in a historically marginalized community gaining visibility and voice. A leader finding solidarity and support from peers they couldn’t afford to connect with before.

It looks like a network where belonging isn’t conditional but cultivated through shared values, mutual respect, and collective commitment. We’re proud to take this step, and we know it’s just the beginning.

Thanks to your support, ACA is shaping a network rooted in equity, care, and collective strength. By removing dues, we’re lowering barriers, redistributing resources, and allowing organizations to reinvest in what matters most. Together, we’re building a more inclusive and resilient future for the residency field.

SGCI micro-Residency | Special Program

Associated Residency Program

´ace is an acronym that stands for "arte contemporáneo en expansión", which is Spanish for "expanding contemporary art". Its main mission is to promote contemporary artistic practices and the exploration of their multiple interfaces through residency programs, which are aimed at artists, curators and researchers, and promote collaborative work, exchange, debate and experimentation.

In the year of its 20th anniversary, Proyecto´ace is proud to announce a partnership with the SGCI—Southern Graphics Council International in the form of a dual programme, which includes a special micro-Residencies for SGCI members and an international portfolio and exhibition: [Im]possible Parallels.

About Graphic Drift
A two weeks immersive program that brings together studio based creation and a curated exploration of the city of Buenos Aires and its vibrant printmaking art scene. Artists will develop their own work while drifting through the city workshops, galleries and independent spaces, tracing lines between printmaking and place.

Created in collaboration with the Southern Graphics Council International (SGCI), and in celebration of Proyecto´ace’s 20th anniversary, this program is both a space for personal artistic development and a collective journey through the diverse and layered graphic landscape of the city. The residency culminates with a group exhibition of the works produced and a parallel showcase of the portfolio [Im]Possible Parallels, linking the individual and the continental, the intimate and the cartographic.

Why Join
Both emerging and professional printmakers joining this program will transform their practice into a journey—exploring new places, discovering new techniques, making friends, expanding professional networks, all while sparking fresh ideas, culminating in a group exhibition that connects participants to the city and beyond. Graphic Drift is more than a residency—it’s a living map where art redraws the city.

What is offered
Set in the dynamic cultural ecosystem of Buenos Aires and rooted in Proyecto´ace long standing commitment to collaborative work, this experience offers perspective that challenge conventional models of production and mobility while exploring the role of printmaking as a relational, porous and resilient practice. It is an invitation to redraw maps, both artistic and personal, throughout shared processes and new forms of connection. In this spirit, the program is both a space for personal artistic development and a collective journey through the diverse and layered graphic landscape of the city. The residency culminates with a group exhibition of the works produced together with a showcase of the portfolio [Im]Possible Parallels, linking the individual and the continental, the intimate and the cartographic.

Workshop Leader: Alicia Candiani
Alicia Candiani is an Argentine artist and cultural leader whose work in expanded printmaking, digital media, and collaborative practices has been internationally exhibited and awarded. She is the founder and director of Proyecto´ace, an influential 20 years old artist-in-residence program in Buenos Aires focused on contemporary print media, expanded printmaking practices and visual culture. A longtime member of SGC International, Candiani has served on its Board of Directors and chaired the International Panel on many occasions. In 2016, she received the Member of the Council Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to both the council and the field.

Throughout the two-week program, Alicia Candiani will lead the group in collaboration with her well-trained team at Proyecto’ace, including Sebastián Podbersich, master printer, and Andrés Knob, program producer and coordinator. Together, they will guide participants through both the conceptual and technical aspects of printmaking, fostering a unique space of artistic dialogue and production.

2026 Longfellow Emerging Artist Fellowship

Associated Residency Program

The Longfellow Emerging Artist Fellowship (LEAF) is a bold new initiative from One Longfellow Square, created to support early-career, Maine-based musicians in building sustainable, fulfilling lives as working artists. Launching in January 2026, the fellowship offers time, space, and community for five artists to focus deeply on their craft while gaining momentum in their professional journeys.

Rooted in equity and shaped by conversations with artists and cultural leaders across Maine, LEAF is designed to meet real needs—offering not just opportunity, but meaningful support. By investing in local talent and providing a platform for growth, LEAF aims to strengthen Maine’s creative ecosystem and help launch the next generation of voices onto the national stage.

In addition to community and visibility, each LEAF Fellow will receive:

  • Free access to OLS venue space for rehearsals, recordings, workshops, and creative development
  • Multiple paid performance opportunities
  • $5,000 stipend for travel, equipment, living expenses, and new works
  • Tailored marketing and portfolio support, including media introductions and website guidance
  • Weekend retreat in rural Maine for reflection, collaboration, and creative reset
  • Workshops and masterclasses with working musicians
  • Connections to a growing network of presenters, venues, mentors, and professional organizations

Additional Eligibility Information

To be eligible for the Longfellow Emerging Artist Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be a current Maine resident at the time of application and throughout the fellowship period.
  • Be 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
  • Identify as an “emerging” artist. While we understand this term can be subjective, we are looking for artists who are early in their professional music career, are developing their unique voice, and demonstrate significant potential for growth and impact. This typically means you are not yet widely recognized nationally or internationally, have not regularly performed in rooms/venues exceeding a capacity of 50-100, and are actively seeking opportunities for professional development and exposure.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to their musical practice and a clear vision for how the fellowship will support their artistic development.
  • Be available to participate in fellowship activities within the Greater Portland area and across the state of Maine, which may include mentorship sessions, workshops, an artist retreat, and public performances/presentations throughout the fellowship period.
