Call for Poets! Bethany Arts Community: Poetry Residency Spring 2025

Call for Poets!

In recognition of the 29th anniversary of National Poetry Month in April 2025, Bethany Arts Community (BAC) in Ossining, NY is offering its fifth annual residency focused on poetry.

Bethany Arts Community designs its residencies to provide an environment where artists can work near each other, creating opportunities for cross-pollination, collaboration, and connection. Residents will find both solitude and community with a small cohort of other poets and artists sharing the residency. Residents will be surrounded by opportunities for uninhibited creativity during their time at BAC, in the form of other Poetry Residents, local studio artists, BAC staff and board members, those presenting programs on campus, and more!

A unique component of residencies at BAC is Community Programming. As part of a residency, we ask each artist to develop and facilitate a Community Program related to their residency plan. This part of the residency is an opportunity for artists to share with the local community in Ossining and Westchester County, and for the local community to engage with artists through their work.

The Poetry Residency is for one week: Monday, March 31 to Monday, April 7, 2025. Artists are provided room & board, a private studio, 3 basic meals a day (see note below)*, and a $225 stipend upon completion of the residency. Artist is responsible for transportation to and from BAC and any supplies or materials needed for their practice. We ask that you only apply if you can stay for the entire length of this residency.

*Please note for the 3 meals included during the residency, Bethany Arts Community is only able to accommodate for vegan, plant-based, vegetarian, dairy-free, and/or gluten-free diets. Please contact submit@bethanyarts.org with any questions or if you have any further allergies/dietary needs not listed.

Please read all guidelines and application instructions carefully, incomplete applications or submissions that exceed outlined content limits will not be considered. Please only apply to this residency if you are able to stay in residence from date start to date end.

Application Deadline: Monday, January 6, 2025 at 11:59PM EST

Letters of Recommendation Deadline: Monday, January 13, 2025 at 11:59 EST
As letters of recommendation (LOR) are sent out at the time of application submission, we give applicants another week to ensure that their LOR is in. Please ensure your LOR is submitted by this deadline to be considered.
There is one letter of recommendation and one reference (not the person who wrote the LOR) required to be considered.

Notifications: Friday, February 14, 2025

Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Art Residency - Spring and Summer 2026

Associated Residency Program

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Residency aims to promote exploration and production in the Visual Arts. Artists can develop projects using a medium or a combination of technologies. Aviário Studio is an artist-run space with workshops equipped to develop works on Printmaking, Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Sculpture, Installation, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Bookbinding.

We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

The duration, focus and outcome of the residency is defined by the participating artist’s goals.

Alchemy Island Spring 2026

Associated Residency Program

Alchemy Island Spring, Gibraltar Point, April 4, 2026

More 100 artists from around the world have joined Alchemy since 2015.

ALCHEMY is an artist-led international residency offered to make time and space for participants to explore and expand the relationship between their creative and social practices on Toronto Island, a unique community setting in Lake Ontario.  More then 100 artists from around the world have participated in Alchemy since 2015 in one of two locations -- the Toronto Islands off the coast of Toronto, Canada's largest City and rural Prince Edward County,  a wine growing region two hours east of Toronto.  This call is for our Spring 2026 Toronto Island residency.

Founded in 2015 on the Toronto Islands, Alchemy's pillars are food, art, garden and table -- all inspired by the original gardens and community at the Centre. Shared meals, artist talks, studio visits, and dialogue with community members and guest artists all contribute to a magical inspiring time in this magical setting. This Residency is designed for artists to focus on their practice in a respectful and supportive studio environment. Participating artists will be encouraged to cultivate new directions in their work, experiment with process and materiality techniques, and direct their research, activities, and time in collaboration with other visiting artists.

Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts is a peaceful artist retreat nestled against the magnificent backdrop of Toronto Island - the largest car-free community in North America and 15 minutes by ferry to Toronto's downtown core.

A community setting for inquiry and discovery

Through community engagement and commitment to a collaborative process, we collect, tell, and document multiple stories showcasing what compels people to continue to create, grow, farm, and live in two unique communities.

Shared meals, readings and discussions probe the creative intersection of food & art in a community setting & help us better understand the magic & inspiration created by making & sharing art & food.

This residency brings together working artists working in visual arts, sculpture, photography, craft, food,  performance art, writing and video. Participants share their work & practices while also contributing culinary creativity to lively communal discussions and dinners.

Coordinators:   Claire M Tallarico, is a visual artist, chef and urban gardener whose social practice explores how the everyday activities of art & food making &  sharing contribute to the positive experience of participating artists and the communities they return to.  Tonia DiRisio is a visual artist and arts administrator. Her work has developed through ongoing investigations of the growing, making, preserving, celebrating, and sharing of food.
