March & April in Tennessee

Associated Residency Program

If nature is your muse, collaborator, or co-conspirator, then make plans for a residency in March and/or April in Tennessee.

Feel fresh with comfortable temperatures, pops of color and variety of greens. You'll hear the birds and possibly feel the spring rain. Take the shoes off and stand on the grass for a grounding experience.

“Flowers don't worry about how they're going to bloom. They just open up and turn toward the light, and that makes them beautiful." – Jim Carrey

A variety of flowers begin to bloom starting with the daffodils in February, but you'll also see wild flora such as clovers and dandelions. The trees begin their sprouting and the daylight is a minute longer day by day.

Those who stay at least 2 weeks will receive a guided Forest Therapy (aka Forest Bathing) walk (certified guide by ANFT) for a deeper connection to the land. Make the creative habit to wander the landscape on a daily basis.

“Spring work is going on with joyful enthusiasm." – John Muir

This is an ideal time to work outside, but there are several studios and work spaces that are assigned based on the calendar and your space/medium requirements.

The bulk of the residency schedule availability is during March and April. There may be overlaps in residency participation or you might be the only one to enjoy the solace.

  • Daylight Savings starts March 9.
  • Spring Equinox is March 20.

“It's spring again. I can hear the birds sing again. See the flowers start to bud. See young people fall in love." – Lou Rawls, "Spring Again"

For more information about the residency including pictures and a blog of previous participants, please visit the website.

Let your creativity FLOW LIKE THE BUFFALO river on the edge of our acreage.

Individuals must be able to let the normal world and lifestyle go during your stay and it is encouraged that you utilize the time and access to the benefits of being away from contemporary society. If you cannot go a day without your favorite coffee shop visit, have fast food on the brain, or need lots of people around to function, this is not the place for you.

Be prepared for a different sense of time here and your project goals may actually go faster because you don't have your normal life distractions. You must agree to all of the policies which includes basic life chores like washing dishes daily as a creative philosophy allow your mind to wander and your inner gut to rejuvenate.

Projects at any stage are acceptable from seed starting to harvesting.

Applications accepted on a rolling basis. For priority on options for room and studio choice, please submit by the December deadline. Additional deadline may open in 2025 based on availability.

Executive Director

Seattle JazzED believes that any student who wants to play music should get to play. Building on the legacy and values of jazz, Seattle JazzED increases access to the music room, celebrates student expression, and builds lasting connections rooted in community.

Seattle JazzED employs 8 full-time staff and contracts with 45 music instructors. It has a diverse and active 14-member Board of Directors. With an annual operating budget of $1.3 million, it directly serves over 1,300 students annually from schools all over the Seattle area.

In 2019, Seattle JazzED launched a capital campaign that garnered $8 million in pledges from local foundations, the State of Washington, the City of Seattle, and individual donors. A portion of the pledges are held as restricted cash reserves that can be used to find a new physical location. We hope to eventually move into a space where they don't just serve music students—they serve their families, their communities, their city.

Summer 2025 & Winter 2026 Cohorts

Associated Residency Program

Pedantic Arts Residency brings together an artist, a curator, and a writer under one roof for a collaborative arts experience. It is a unique invitation to open greater and more cross-disciplinary dialogue within the arts by re-embracing the significant impact that education, study, and structured contemplation can have on artistic output. It is focused on fostering artistic connections rather than production.

Running for a period of 4 weeks, participants will be immersed in the creative communities of Pittsburgh. Pedantic is located in one of the city’s largest and most bustling art hubs. The assets of this creative network will be offered as a meaningful point of influence for residents, while providing them with ample opportunities to advance their practices and share their talents and perspectives.

Pedantic will entail weekly programming including but not limited to lectures, dinners, studio visits, and museum tours. Many of these will be open to members of the larger public or specific invited guests, while others will be reserved as special opportunities just for the cohort. Residents will also have the unique opportunity to partner and collaborate with local organizations and professionals. Each resident will be assigned to a Pittsburgh-based guide working in a similar field who will help connect them to activities, resources, and contacts.

The residency can result in a myriad of outcomes, whether immediate or over time through the continued percolation of ideas.

2025 Open Call – L’AiR Arts Curated Professional Program

Associated Residency Program

The L'AiR Arts Curated Professional Program is specially designed to enable participants to situate their artistic exploration and practice within both the historical and contemporary context of art creation in Paris.

This immersive art residency program offers a stimulating experience of intercultural exchange, research and professional development. Structured as a forum, this residency allows for an emphasis on meeting, connecting and inter-cultural exchange while engaging with the unique history and contemporary scene in Paris. Residents have an opportunity to build lasting connections with the fellow peers and expand their network of Paris-based arts professionals and organizations.

L’AiR Arts grounds its commitment to the contemporary arts within a historical perspective. The program not only provides the opportunity to explore Paris and have a space in which to comfortably stay and work, it also offers an insider’s view into the important role that international artists have played in Paris from the late 19th century to the present day. Located in Montparnasse, known as a historic hub for international artists during the 20th century École de Paris period, the residency program is dedicated to the historical legacy of this prolific period of intercultural artistic exchange.

The program offers a unique opportunity to learn more about the history of the École de Paris while reflecting on the significance of Atelier 11 as central to the international artist community in the past and its renewed role in the future. To foster meaningful encounters and connections, this program provides participants with the opportunity to meet local artists, curators, art historians, and gallerists working in Paris today. Residents also have the opportunity to participate in a facilitated group discussion to exchange ideas and share their work. During this residency, participants explore different artistic neighbourhoods of Paris, visit historic artist studios, many of which are normally closed to the public, as well as art academies and meeting places where the ideas that shaped modern art as we know it were formed.

2025 Open Call – L’AiR Arts Residency at Atelier 11 in Paris

Associated Residency Program

Since 2021, L’AiR Arts Association has been spearheading a cultural heritage project to transition a historic artist studio Atelier 11 into an International Arts Research Residency dedicated to intercultural exchange.

Built in the 1875 as an artist-led initiative, Cité Falguière has served as a working and living place to more than a hundred French and international artists, including world-renowned Amedeo Modigliani, Chaïm Soutine, Tsuguharu Foujita, Constantin Brancusi, and Paul Gauguin. To continue this artistic heritage within contemporary culture, the last surviving studio of Cité Falguière -Atelier 11 continues to welcome artists and cultural professionals as an International Arts Research Residency. Preserving the living heritage of the École de Paris as a historic hub for intercultural artistic exchange, the aim of this project is to celebrate the significance of Cité Falguière as the world’s longest-running international residency that accepted and nurtured artists throughout three centuries.

A historic place built by artists for artists, for 150 years Atelier 11 Cité Falguière has operated as an artist-run space. Recently recognized as a heritage site, it continues to be supported by the artistic community of L’AiR Arts and Cité Falguière Associations. We invite our peers from all over the world to join us and contribute to the project while benefiting from the Atelier 11 residency in Paris.

L’AiR Arts aims to rebuild Atelier 11 as an affordable and inclusive space for research, exchange and creation open for artists and cultural professionals from all over the world - just as it was initially established in 1875 as an artist-led initiative, providing residents with living and work space as well as community support.

Thanks to our current supporters, we are able to offer a number of funded and subsidized residencies, as well as fellowships to cover travel and/or material and research stipend. In addition, we accept submissions from candidates who are funded by other institutions and funders. The contributions help us to offset the costs of upkeep and preservation of the Atelier 11 historic residency, while also creating a nurturing and productive environment for the residents.

We therefore offer the following kinds of residency options:

  • Funded residency (that may also include travel and/or research and material stipend)
  • Subsidized residency: 625 euro per week
  • Full cost residency: 1250 euro per week - for applicants who are able to raise their own funds or have already secured funding elsewhere to help cover the costs associated with the residency.

Funded and subsidized residencies are limited and priority is given to candidates from less economically developed parts of the world based on the OECD’s DAC list, as well as artists at risk or in exile.

All selected candidates receive an invitation letter indicating the specific condition of their residency, which can be used to seek further funding from national and international agencies.

L’AiR Arts Residency Program

Paris, France

L’AiR Arts is committed to supporting intercultural artistic exchange through international arts residency programs, while promoting diversity, inclusion and international understanding through artistic and cultural heritage. Just like L’AiR Arts historical base at Atelier 11, our residency program mirrors the symbol for equality = a horizontal exchange between artists and cultural professionals from various cultural backgrounds, of different ages and genders, working in various disciplines and at all stages of their professional careers.

L’AiR Arts residency program is supported by 4 main pillars:

  • intercultural exchange
  • research
  • professional development and;
  • contemporary creation

The purpose of L'AiR Arts multidisciplinary residency programs is to foster cross-cultural exchanges and collaborations between international artists and cultural professionals within the local art ecosystem. Located in Montparnasse, known as a historic hub for international artists in the beginning of the 20th century, the L’AiR Arts residency program grounds its commitment to contemporary arts within a historical perspective.

Focusing on intercultural artistic exchange as the legacy of the École de Paris, the program offers an insider’s view into the important role that international artists have played in Paris from the late 19th century to the present day.

Thanks to our current supporters, we are able to offer a number of funded and subsidized residencies, as well as fellowships to cover travel and/or material and research stipend.

Funded and subsidized residencies are limited and priority is given to candidates from less economically developed parts of the world based on the OECD’s DAC list, as well as artists at risk or in exile.

In addition, we accept submissions from candidates who are funded by other institutions and funders. The contributions help us to offset the costs of upkeep and preservation of the Atelier 11 historic residency, while also creating a nurturing and productive environment for the residents.

All selected candidates receive an invitation letter indicating the specific condition of their residency, which can be used to seek further funding from national and international agencies.
