RADicle

Boyne City, MI, United States

RADicle is The Croft Residency's collaborative residency with RAD Fest in Kalamazoo, MI. The residency includes a fall residency at The Croft, usually in September, and a performance opportunity the following spring as a featured artist at RAD Fest in Kalamazoo, in early March. RADicle is one of the awarded residencies that The Croft hosts. Each residency is for a movement artist and their collaborators. The Croft can host up to 4 artist/collaborators as a part of each residency. The RADicle residents will have access to the rehearsal spaces at The Croft Residency and studio space in a Petoskey, a small town close to the residency. While in residence, the artists are required to give a gift to the land everyday, to leave a gift for the next residents, and to engage with local community through an engagement that supports their creative practice. The RADicle residency length is 1-2 weeks. The specific length of the residency, within this frame, is up the artists. Each collaborator will receive a $575 stipend for their time. Artists will be reimbursed for travel costs up to $500.

The Croft Residency is a small residency on the hill facing South located in Horton Bay Michigan. The residency is on a 20 acre parcel of land on a dead end street. The residency overlooks Lake Charlevoix. Our main studio space is a large outdoor deck for dancing. We also have access to the communities' old one room schoolhouse, which is just down the hill.

We support movement based creatives. Choreographers/companies are able to apply with collaborators of different mediums for creative residencies. On average we host groups of up to 4 dancers for creative residencies. The residencies we host are generally either one or two weeks. The stipend amount that we offer to our residents is the same regardless of residency length. We offer stipends of $575 per artist and travel reimbursement of up to $500 per artist.

We require the artists to give a gift to the land/engage in intentional relationship with the land everyday as a part of their process. Artists also leave a gift for the next resident. We ask artists to engage with the public. We work with the artists to find the engagement that makes the most sense for their process.

Wildacres Environmental Artist-in-Residence

Associated Residency Program

The Environmental Artist-in-Residence Program at Wildacres Retreat welcomes artists, scientists and other professionals engaging with ambitious ideas and who are activity-focused on current global environmental issues. Candidates will be chosen for their intellectual and creative rigor as well as activism in their creative practice, with a deep emphasis on our climate crisis and its many permutations for society moving forward.

The intent of the Wildacres EAIR program is to support professional individuals and their creative practices from several disciplines, including all areas of art, social practice, writing, research, environmental restoration, natural science and other environmental and creative disciplines.

Qualified applicants will include artists and scientists who focus on climate change, global warming, the extinction crisis, habitat loss, soil degradation, as well as remedies and human adaptations to these and other pressing climate crisis issues. We are interested in artists who understand the cycles of the natural elements they are investigating and how the dynamics of our warming planet play a role in those cycles. For instance, in the local Blue Ridge Mountains the demise of Hemlock forests through infestation by an introduced insect has unbalanced essential elements of local watersheds.

Chesterwood

Location

4 Williamsville Road
Stockbridge, MA 01262
United States

Chesterwood, a Site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation since 1969, is the summer home, studio and gardens of American Renaissance sculptor Daniel Chester French (1850-1931).  French created some of America's most iconic works at Chesterwood, notably the seated Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC (1922) and the Minute Man at the Old North Bridge in Concord, MA (1874). Located in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, Chesterwood preserves a 122-acre landscape with mountain views, as well as formal gardens and woodland trails designed by the sculptor. Chesterwood displays a collection of French’s original sculpture, plaster maquettes, paintings and furnishings throughout the French family residence, the sculptor’s studio, and exhibition galleries.  Public appreciation in sculpture is fostered through an annual contemporary sculpture exhibition, artist residencies and workshops. Chesterwood is recognized as both a National Historic Landmark and a Massachusetts Historic Landmark.

Currently Chesterwood offers artist residencies during the summer months in collaboration with the National Sculpture Society and with the Berkshire Art Center.
