eThe Grünewald Guild is an arts education non-profit retreat center nestled exploring the intersections of art + faith + community. The Guild is nestled in the Plain Valley of Washington state alongside the Wenatchee River.  Residencies are available to individuals at all levels of artistic development who are prepared to work independently and whose artistic processes can be successfully supported by the Guild’s studio facilities. Although our spaces are primarily designed for visual artists, we welcome residents working in all creative disciplines, including writers, musicians, and performers. Residents must be 18 or older at the start of the residency. Resident artists must be fully vaccinated before arrival at the Guild. 

Our residency program is volunteer-based, and we provide artists with lodging, meals (with our programming), staple foods (non-program times), and studio space at no cost in exchange for part-time volunteer service to the Guild. Artists in residence commit to spending a minimum of 20 hours/week in the studio working on their own projects, as well as 15-20 hours/week in volunteer service to the Guild community. Resident artists are stewards of the Guild, and are expected to uphold the Community Covenant. 

Studios are assigned based on availability (sometimes the Guild has other events scheduled in the space) as well as the artist’s medium and process.

We are a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-generational cooperative of creatives, educators, and farmers with a common mission to create a community based on shared values and democratic principles. We believe in sustainable living through regenerative agriculture, community outreach, education, and inclusivity. 

We are guests and caretakers of 66 acres of wooded property with trails, forest, fields, and streams in the lush green mountains of unceded Abenaki land in Fletcher, Vermont. Join us to begin conversations around social, racial, and environmental justice and the role we, as artist/educators/activists, play in uplifting the next generation of artist/activist leaders! We have beautiful outdoor spaces for plein air painting, abundant woods for crafting and sculpting with natural materials, and woods to explore for inspiration and contemplation. Bring your sustainable art supplies, small tools, sketchbooks, and wisdom, to make art, grow food, and be the change we want to see in the world!

We offer short term (2 week) and long term (4, 6 & 8 week) residencies. You may stay in the Dream House, or Yurt.  Our residency is meant to inspire you, offer a place to rest, and support creativity surrounded by nature.  Artists, writers, think-tanks, educators and learners, farmers and community activists, and culture workers are invited to apply.

Rising: Climate in Crisis Residencies at A Studio in the Woods invite artists to face the severity of the climate crisis and be agents of change to guide our collective understanding, response, and vision as we shape our shared future. New Orleans and the inhabitants of our region are frequently invoked as some of the most vulnerable to the effects of environmental degradation. While sea levels, temperatures and emotions are rising, our highly manipulated landscape can be seen as a microcosm of the global environment, manifesting both the reckoning and hope which are required in the ways humans interact with shifting urban and natural ecosystems. As the climate crisis permeates the collective understanding of the future, the challenges faced by Southern Louisiana resonate exponentially. We look to artists to ignite our imaginations, illuminate our challenges, and offer new ways to examine the world. Selected artist are provided with a $3000 stipend, $2000 materials budget, grocery reimbursement, 6 weeks of residency, and staff support.

The application is released annually in December with a March/April deadeline.

The Art Colony provides artists with self-guided work space in professional studios set on Minnesota’s North Shore. An environment of creative freedom supports the process and development of new works, allowing for a combination of aesthetic inquiry, creative risk-taking, experimentation, and artistic development. There are no outcome requirements.

At Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture, we work with artists, educators, researchers and Tribal members to support the long-term resilience of the local ecosystem. As stewards of the land, we rely on a deep understanding of the local ecology and the application of time-tested techniques to conserve natural resources and maintain the fertile conditions in which life can flourish. Understanding how different entities within the ecosystem interact and coexist at PMRCAA has allowed us to preserve the ranching tradition and maintain agricultural land. Our hope is to restore PMRCAA’s soil by understanding the diverse web of relationships responsible for maintaining its fertility.

By embracing a more expansive perspective that recognizes the power of diverse ways of knowing and being, we concern ourselves with how to instill ethical relations of production and explore the role artists, culture bearers, scientists, scholars, and researchers play in nourishing radical imagination and facilitating transformative change.
