An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Aviário Studio Art Residency aims to promote exploration and production in the Visual Arts. Artists can develop projects using a medium or a combination of technologies. Aviário Studio is an artist-run space with workshops equipped to develop projects on Printmaking, Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Sculpture, Installation, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Bookbinding.

The program is customized according to the participating artist’s goals regarding duration, outcome and focus.  We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

Aviário Studio Printmaking Residency Program aims to promote the exploration and production in the Printmaking field. Artists can develop projects using a wide range of techniques, from relief to intaglio, screen printing, transfer, monotype, among others.

We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

The duration, focus and outcome of the residency is defined by the participating artist’s goals.

The mission of Rock Street Artist Residency (RSAR) is to provide a unique space for artists to immerse themselves in their creative process, set against the inspiring backdrop of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Located in Marquette, RSAR fosters creativity and innovation by offering a transformative environment where the natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula meets the vibrant energy of Marquette’s urban community. Surrounded by the pristine shores of Lake Superior, dense forests, and dramatic rocky outcrops, RSAR also enjoys the cultural richness of Marquette, which boasts a dynamic arts scene, local history, and a deep spirit of artistic expression.

Housed in a historic Victorian home built in 1887—the first farm on Rock Street—RSAR carries a unique legacy. Originally a farm and smokehouse that supplied fresh eggs, smoked fish, and poultry to the steamships visiting Marquette Harbor, the residence blends historical charm with contemporary artistic inspiration. Artists at RSAR enjoy a peaceful, distraction-free setting with fully equipped studio spaces, gourmet meals, and an abundance of natural inspiration. The residency is just two blocks from the world’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Superior.

Our program hosts two artists and/or writers per session, with residencies available for two- and three-week terms. RSAR supports artists working across all mediums and genres, offering a self-motivated environment for focused creative exploration.

These residencies have public-facing components that could be a workshop, a temporary installation, a performance, or another type of community engagement at some point during the residency. Stipends and funds for these vary and are project-specific. These happen throughout the year. If you have an idea for In the Making, indicate so on your application with a brief description, and if selected, we’ll follow up to plan it in more detail.

The Emerging Artist and Writers Residency provides stipends, multiple resident gatherings, visiting artists & curators, and an open studio/public reading. This residency is aimed at writers, visual, and interdisciplinary artists in the Pacific Northwest who are towards beginning of their creative paths and can benefit from the time to focus and receive support from a community of peers and specialists in their fields.
