We initiate and facilitate customized creative residencies across all disciplines. Our focus is on identifying and addressing the themes of rural transition—through participatory research with creatives and communities in the exurban environment of the Shenandoah Valley (Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland.)

Residents are given production help and space, administrative assistance, networking opportunities, as well as guidance on local customs and issues relating to contemporary rural life. Open to all artists, movers, scientists, farmers, historians, musicians, writers, journalists, filmmakers, and others.

Our program is multi-locational—meaning that we partner to build a network of hosting locations and interested communities in which residents may engage, based on the artist's intended work

Similkameen Artist Residency

Location

3380 BC-3
Keremeos BC V0X1N1
Canada

The Similkameen Artist Residency (SAR) initiated its first call for applications in summer 2022. The residency offers studio and living space for up to four artists (+ partner) at a time, in line with the founding principle of providing artists affordable short-term (1-3 months) access to live, work and cultivate new ideas within a small cohort of peers. The character of the space, a timber log home originally built as a B&B, is as defined by its surroundings: rock, wind-blown pine, sage-brush.

Aviário Studio Art Residency

Associated Residency Program

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Aviário Studio Art Residency aims to promote exploration and production in the Visual Arts. Artists can develop projects using a medium or a combination of technologies. Aviário Studio is an artist-run space with workshops equipped to develop projects on Printmaking, Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Sculpture, Installation, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Bookbinding.

We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

The duration, focus and outcome of the residency is defined by the participating artist’s goals.

Aviário Studio Printmaking Residency

Ferreira do Zêzere, Portugal

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Aviário Studio Printmaking Residency Program aims to promote the exploration and production in the Printmaking field. Artists can develop projects using a wide range of techniques, from relief to intaglio, screen printing, transfer, monotype, among others.
