HUG Donkeys! Family Friendly Summer with youth program options

Associated Residency Program

Spend quality time in a residency with your family in a summer camp vibe.

Schedule a family residency for an exclusive private experience for 1 or 2 weeks. Dates available from June to mid-August.

Multi-generational family experience available and programming can be coordinated for youth from toddler to teens. If you have creative tweens/teens, instead of sending them to sleep-away camp bring them along for a special, unique experience for each individual and the family as a whole. You will have dedicated studio and work time while the kids have customized nature-based, creative private instruction and mentorship intentionally away from the typical distractions of home life and modern society conveniences.

Want them to have a unique experience in nature and in a homestead environment with inspiration and interaction opportunities all around?

Want to have family dinners in a no phone zone and make s'mores around a campfire telling silly stories or playing musical instruments?

How does a creative family take a summer vacation where everyone gets to tinker, play, experiment, explore, and overall engage in wonder and wander?

Forget the vacation rental and have a fantastic memorable summer creative experience at Camp Wonder Wander.

What is available for them? Programming options for all ages. Example below and more information on the website.

  • This experience for toddlers to tweens can be a day camp style experience with private interaction based on interests that can range from a one time workshop to a daily activity.
  • If your tween or teen has interest in graphic design, former design professor Val has a unique project options based on their age and skill level emphasizing hand craft from design basics to typography and advanced projects related to sustainability and the role of citizen designer. Or if they have interest in the arts in general, Val will offer a nature-based set of projects such as cyanotype, nature journaling, writing prompts, and craft.

Choose from either the Raspberry Residency house (3 bedrooms, 2 baths with a full bed en-suite and two single private rooms) or the much bigger Lemon Lodge (3 bedrooms, 2 baths can technically sleep up to 14). You'll have exclusive access and be the only one's on site (unless another family is in the second lodging option).

Share this lovely, rural homestead experience where you can HUG DONKEYS, watch birds, immerse in the landscape, and see the stars on a non-cloudy night with those you love.

Alchemy Artists Residency

Toronto , ON, Canada

Alchemy is an international artist-led residency devoted to exploring and expanding between artistic and culinary practices in community settings. More 100 artists from around the world have joined Alchemy since 2015.

A community setting for inquiry and discovery

Through community engagement and commitment to a collaborative process, we collect, tell, and document multiple stories showcasing what compels people to continue to create, grow, farm, and live in two unique communities.

Shared meals, readings and discussions probe the creative intersection of food & art in a community setting & help us better understand the magic & inspiration created by making & sharing art & food.

This residency brings together working artists working in visual arts, sculpture, photography, craft, food,  performance art, writing and video. Participants share their work & practices while also contributing culinary creativity to lively communal discussions and dinners.

Coordinators:   Claire M Tallarico, is a visual artist, chef and urban gardener whose social practice explores how the everyday activities of art & food making &  sharing makes a difference to participants and communities and Tonia DiRisio  is a visual artist and arts administrator. Her work has developed through ongoing investigations of the growing, making, preserving, celebrating, and sharing of food.

Dora Maar House Open Call for 2025 Residencies

Associated Residency Program

In 1997, Nancy B. Negley purchased the former residence of Dora Maar. In a five-year effort, she rehabilitated and updated this spacious eighteenth-century, four-story stone residence in the village of Ménerbes. Her goal was to make it a retreat for scholars, artists, and writers, where they could work undisturbed on their research, art, or writing, for one to two months.

Here outstanding mid-career professionals are offered fellowships that enable them to reside in the Dora Maar House and focus on the creative aspects of their work.

A travel award is based on the average fare of travel from the resident's hometown to Paris.

A $1500 stipend is awarded.

ADDITIONAL ACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION

We are sorry to say the house is not completely adapted to persons with limited mobility access. It is on top of a hill in a medieval village. Getting to the house or to any of the stores in the village would be difficult. The rooms and studios are up two flights of stairs, though there is an elevator. The elevator cannot accommodate most wheelchairs. It is a very old house (15th century) and the floors are not even, there are small steps up and down between rooms.

A person with mobility issues can discuss with the staff their specific needs and level of mobility to see if it would be possible. Persons with some but limited mobility have been able to enjoy a month-long residency with some restrictions. Caregiver or companion is allowed in this context, but they must be a partner and willing to share the same bedroom with the fellow.

Headwaters Residency

Bethlehem, NH, United States

For our inaugural residency season, Headwaters is inviting applications from writers and artists of all experience level. Apply for a week-long residency solo or with a creative partner. Come to the heart of the White Mountains to nurture the sources of your creativity and let this residency influence your projects the way the headwaters of these mountain streams carve the landscape on their way to the Atlantic.

The White Mountains of New Hampshire have forever inspired artists and writers. Check out Thomas Cole or Henry David Thoreau. But the art scene is alive and evolving. While you'll find yourself in a rural outpost, you can walk from the house to downtown Bethlehem, NH, where you can visit the local art gallery, see a concert at the small theater, or pour through pages at our iconic bookstore. A short drive will take you to countless trailheads. We (and previous residents) will recommend our favorite places to strike inspiration: the best river sits, sunset spots, jaw-dropping views, hikes, skis, and trees. We'll provide some hiking basics to get you outside (maps, guidebooks, poles, headlamps).

The house is a single-story craftsman-style house. There are two bedrooms, each with their own private bathroom. One bedroom is located off the kitchen on the east wing of the house. The other bedroom is on the west wing of the house, allowing for plenty of privacy even if two artists/writers are using the house collaboratively. A third bedroom has been converted into a creative space, with a drafting table and an easel. The kitchen is large, with two sinks and a breakfast bar. The living room, which conjoins the east and west wings, is spacious and features a grand hearth, around which we hope you gather. In the unfinished basement, residents can find laundry facilities.

Replenish Residencies at A Studio in the Woods

New Orleans, LA, United States

Replenish Residencies provides 1-2 week restorative visioning retreats to local BIPOC artists and culture bearers; the heart of New Orleans culture. In light of the many racial disparities still present in our society at large and the arts economy specifically, we offer these residencies to provide time to rest and restore, vision, and create. The call is open to BIPOC artists and culture bearers from the Greater New Orleans area who have not attended a residency before.

The Studio focuses on interrelated areas of programming, including residencies for artists and scholars, forest restoration, and science-inspired art engagement for children and adults. We center interdependence, wonder, care, and inclusivity in all of our work and believe the essential and transformative powers of art and the natural environment are central to a thriving future for all. Currently, the facility can accommodate three resident artists at a time. Living quarters are located in two separate buildings, the Main House and the Writer’s Cabin. Each artist is assigned a private bedroom, bathroom and studio space. Residents share a common living space and kitchen where they prepare their own meals. The Main House in a unique building lovingly constructed from salvaged lumber by our founders in the 1970s. It has been updated throughout the years and is now fully air-conditioned, but has its own quirks. The newest addition to our campus, the Writer’s Cabin, was constructed in 2019. WiFi is available throughout the compound but we are in a rural area and sometimes experience intermittent outages. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate anyone under 18 overnight, including children of residents.

Printmaking Barcelona is the evolution of the studio created in 1986 by Ignacio Aguirre, a master printmaker whom during his career has worked with different national and international artists such as: Joan Miró, Antoni Tàpies, Eduardo Chillida, Victor Mira, Eduardo Arroyo, Sean Scully, Ferdinand Finne…

Since 2019, when his son Ignasi Aguirre took over, the studio has continued the legacy of the founder and has implemented new techniques, as well as a more global vision of printmaking to reach as many people as possible.

Located in the heart of Barcelona, Printmaking Barcelona has been, since the year it was founded, an artistic studio for artists to develop their works in the field of chalcographic engraving.

Roman J. Witt Residency Call For Proposals

The Roman J. Witt Residency Program, developed with the support of alumna Penny W. Stamps and named in honor of her father, is an annual international competition that awards one residency per academic year to a visiting artist/designer who proposes to develop a new work.

Eligibility

The Witt Residency is open to both established and emerging artists/designers. The residency provides students an alternate learning opportunity to engage with practicing artists/designers who can make use of resources across campus, therefore the ideal candidate must value collaboration, have good social and communication skills and be interested in generating creative partnerships across disciplines. It is the goal of the Witt Residency to foster an atmosphere of inventive creative activity that extends throughout the University community.

Honorarium

Witt Residents receive an honorarium of $20,000 for up to twelve weeks in residence served over an academic year. In addition to the honorarium, residents will be provided with housing, studio space, and up to $5,000 funding support for project materials. The School encourages applications from individuals as well as from creative teams however, please be advised that the resources listed above are finite, including the travel budget. If teams apply the expectation is that the award will be shared between its members.

Application Instructions

Applicants to the Witt Residency Program submit application materials and portfolios online through SlideRoom, an online portfolio review system.

START YOUR APPLICATION

Using SlideRoom, applicants will register, then:

  • Complete application forms, including resume/CV and references.
  • Upload media — this may include video, audio, and pdf files.
  • Submit the processing fee

The SlideRoom application offers complete instructions for submitting work. Technical assistance is available at help.liaisonedu.com.

SlideRoom requires a nominal $15 application fee to offset the cost of media uploads and storage at the time of submission. The fee is paid by the applicant using a secure system via SlideRoom online as the final step in submitting the application. All funds go directly to SlideRoom, and not the Witt Residency, the Stamps School of Art & Design, or the University of Michigan.
